Re: Camera Mount
The quck and easy is a RAM mount and they aren't too bad price-wise. I mount my point & shoot Nikon and prefocus to infinity and just push the button as I ride along. Now, you ain't gonna get no Ansel Adams stuff but it's better and safer that handholding the thing. Check them out here: http://www.ram-mount.com/camera_mount/camera_mounts.htm.

Re: Camera Mount
I made a camera mount today.....for my small hand-held digital.....
For the bike silly..... not for me. I was wondering what to do, then as I was riding today I thought of my mini-tripod..... I used the one I bought from London Drugs.... about $15 or so. I removed the legs, a small Phillips screw held them in place. It was tight so be careful you dont strip the head. There is a big NUT type thing that screws down to hold the legs in place, I used that to attach the mount to the bracket. I used my bench grinder to cut the shoulder away so it would grab the threads better.... I then found a piece of scrap metal in my junk pile, it was actually a leftover bracket from my garage door opener. (I never throw anything away!) It was about the right size, with two holes in about the right place. I made one bigger with a round file....then bent it in my Vise. Assembly is easy..... I mounted the camera holder in place, I used some Marine GOOP as extra insurance so the knob wouldnt come loose..... then I mounted in the same spot that my front brake resevoir is mounted. A test run.... One final note.... CLEAN WINDSHIELD FIRST! pictures here: http://gallery.road-apples.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1324 results: not too bad, a buzz at about 5 - 6k but, well, decide yourself... videos on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/RobertGillcash |

Re: Camera Mount
Hi all! Since then, I have actually changd things.....
Don't waste $$ buying a tripod, a 1/4" nc bolt will usually thread right into the bottom of the cam. A nut that you can tighten up underneath holds the position. I made a new mount using a piece of shelf bracketing, the standard actually - the part that mounts to the wall.....it is a U shape, has slots and is quite strong. I cut and drilled it to mount on either side of my fairing, where the mirrors bolt on. I don't have a pics right now cause bike is dissassembled for a complete makeover but if ya need more ideas pm me and I can take pics of what I can for ya..... The new mount eliminates almost all the buzz..... |

Re: Camera Mount
Hi ThunderAce, many thanks for info!
Your new solution is also good I mean, but if I understand good, now your camera holder is solid and you canīt change position of camera (as like as with tripod-head), donīt you? I still mean that version with tripod is more suitable for me, because I want to be able to easily change position of camera. I only maybe will use some silentblocks on metal holder to eliminate vibrations to camera... |

Re: Camera Mount
Yes, it is now solid. I never actually used the tripod swivel action aside from getting the camera looking straight ahead.
