TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection System Q&A thread
Hello Fellow Members,
I'm one of the founders of Adaptiv Technologies, the maker of the TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection System that Tim has put together a group buy on this board during February 2008. I've been a member of this board since 05 and I'm pleased to have the opportunity to offer our products here. While setting up the group buy deal with Tim, he mentioned that people will probably ask questions about our products once the group buy starts and we figured that it would be best if I just make myself available to answer any questions you may have. Well, here I am, so ask away. I'll answer all questions posted here and hopefully you'll find them to be helpful. The first question that you might ask is how is our detector compared against other high end radar detectors. If you are talking about straight up radar detection sensitivity, you'll probably find a few other high end brands with longer radar detection range. But that doesn't mean that these other products are better for motorcycle use. You have to realize that comparing our detector against others solely based on detection performance is like trying to evaluate a bike strictly by its engine's performance. We all know that you have to consider other factors, such as handling, ergonomics, and appearance, into consideration. Same thing with radar detectors, especially when our System is designed specifically for motorcycles. A fair comparison is to compare our System against other radar detectors on bikes. How good is a radar detector on a bike if you can't hear it, see it, operate it, and have to put it away if it rains? Also, back to the radar detection performance, while we may not be the best, we are right behind them. To prove it, we are certified by Speed Measurement Labs (SML), the same organization that rates all radar detectors each year (see www.speedlabs.com). There are only a handful of products certified by SML, such as products from Valentine One, Escort, and Beltronics. They are certified, and we are certified as well, so draw your own conclusions. Another question is what radar bands does our detector detect. Our detector detects all the bands used by law enforcement agencies here in the US. There are 5 radar bands being used here, X (10.525GHz), K (24.150GHz), and three different Ka bands (37.4GHz, 35.5GHz, and 33.8GHz). Our detector detects them ALL. I'm sure you will have other questions. Post them here, and I'll try to answer them as promptly as possible, and hopefully, you'll be satisfied by the answers to try a unit out yourself. Also, if you are using our products and have found something to be inadequate, let me know so that we can improve on it. We welcome constructive criticisms because they will only help us build better products in the future. http://www.pashnit.com/product/adaptiv_radar.html |

Re: TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection System Q&A thread
Thanks for posting that Wayne. It's a unique opportunity for the members of the board(s) to be in direct contact with the creator of the product we're doing our monthly group buy on. While I'm no expert on Radar Detectors, I was quickly drawn to Wayne's new product, and it reminded me immediately of the way the Zumo 550 GPS has spread across the motorcycling community being designed specific to the needs of bikers- this radar detector is also the first of its kind designed specific to the needs of we motorcyclists.
So for those interested in this sort of thing, link over to the info page, and take it all in ![]() Info & Description of the Adaptiv TPX Radar Buy Now Page |

Hmmm, anyone who gets one want to test it? Have radar and laser ready to use.

Re: TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection System Q&A thread
The Main Console has 360-degree laser detection ability, however, the rider or part of the bike may block the incoming laser beam (actually infrared beam) from being detected.
We will be coming out with a Rear Laser Detector at the end of this year, which is designed to enhance rear laser detection that will be compatible with the System. As for warranty, we offer 1 year limited warranty from the date of your purchase. |

Re: TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection System Q&A thread
Does the main console require any plugging in/unplugging when used with Adaptiv mounts, or are the connections integrated into the respective units ?

Wayne,
Can the TPX be detected by cops using a 'radar detector detector'? When the TPX detects a signal, does it show on the display what band is being detected? What about the wireless helmet option..does it beep a certain way for certain signals? Will it pick up POP signals? |

Note, if you have a third party mount you need to get our "Universal Mount Adapter". You'll need the mount bracket that comes with it to securely lock the detector unit onto the mount. |

When the TPX detects a signal, the LCD display will show the band detected and the strength of the detected signal. Each detected band also has its own distinct beep through the detector unit AND the Wireless Headset. If you use the Headset, you may eventually learn the beep of each band and eventually eliminate the need to look down at the detector unit to see which band is detected. The TPX is not designed to specifically pick up POP. Law enforcement agencies are prohibited from ticketing drivers/riders using POP function in their radar guns. Also, the POP feature generates a lot of false signals and also reduces the overall sensitivity of the detector unit. We eliminated this feature because we want to eliminate as much false alert as possible and increase the overall performance of the unit. |
