Update May 2008 (cut & pasted from post#25)
Okay gang, this is a go. More exchanges today & Cycle Specialties will offer a 15% discount for our group buy which is very generous. The other good news is oddly enough, Autocom America- the manufacture has lowered their prices. So our 15% off is bolstered by the lowered retail pricing of the units. As with last year, the GB is for the main autocom units and NOT for all the little pieces and parts and cables and wires and thingamgigs you can accessorize your autocom system with. Autocoms sort of sell themselves, so there is tons of material to read on the 'Net (including a bunch of threads on this forum about them) & why riders like them so much. We use the exclusively with the Pashnit Tour Co. As with all group buys, this won't last & will be offered for May 2008 ONLY. My target date to get this months group buys for Autocom's, Geza Covers, BeadBrakr Tire Irons and whatever else I can squeeze in will be around the 10th of this month. So will formally announce it then. HOWEVER, if you can't wait, and need to get this ordered today(!)- go right ahead!! , here's the skinny:Call Nichole at Cycle Specialties, a BMW dealer in Modesto, CA that has been kind enough to offer this GB to Pashnit folks & the like. Our very own Gail is one of the folks that works there & helped set this up, thanks Gail! Contact info to participate is: Nichole Starkey Parts Manager Cycle Specialties BMW 307 Maze Blvd. Modesto, CA 95351 209.524.2955 Email: parts at cyclespecialties.com Call or email Nichole and she will get you hooked up. Make sure to reference Pashnit to get your GB discount. Product will be ordered and shipped by Cycle Specialties in Modesto, CA. RETAIL IS THIS: KIT150:$250.00 KIT150DUO:$320.00 KIT200:$289.00 KIT200DUO:$379.00 KIT300:$389.00 KIT300DUO:$489.00 GB PRICING IS THIS: KIT150:$212.50 KIT150DUO:$272.00 KIT200:$246.49 KIT200DUO:$322.15 KIT300:$330.65 KIT300DUO:$415.65 (these prices'll be deleted after the GB ends) Manufacture Website: http://autocomamerica.com/ So just on the Kit300Duo - you could save almost 75 bucks. That'll buy a couple pizzas. -------------- 4/14/08 Spoke with Gail over at Cycle Specialties in Modesto, CA and asked if they'd be interested in conducting the AutoComm GB again. To refresh some memories, we did the GB one year ago in the spring. General idea was to take names, and then refer them direct to Cycle Specialties, who would offer a discounted price to pashnit buyers for a limited time. A bunch of riders took advantage of this and got some good deals. Units were shipped across the US far as New York. Don't have permission on this just yet, but worth throwing this out there and see if anyone is interested 1 yr later. Not familar with Autocomm, they're typically carried by all the BMW dealers, and are top quality units. We've standardized on these with the Pashnit Touring Company and Tim & I use them during all our guided tours. http://www.autocomamerica.com/ is manufacture site. If anyone needs help understanding the differences in the units- post up. Here's how it looks installed on the Hayabusa

I've started to look for a communication unit for when my wife and I ride 2 up. I'd also like to run my GPS thru it (though I'll probably need a neww one with Bluetooth such as the Garmin Nuvi 360). If this looks good I might be interested, but need to do some learning first.

Hey Tim, that things runs off of the bike's power supply right? From the website, it's what I gather. I doubt it would use batteries as that would cause lots of issues on long rides.
I read up on the autocomm system and as a HAM radio operator, it certainly looks like a quality piece. Installed correctly I think everyone would be satisfied with it's performance. Tim certainly is, he yaps on his on every ride! LOL Just one thing to remember guys and gals, this system will have a very limited range. It will be crystal clear, but its not going to go very far. It can't curve around buildings or mountains. It's for the most part line-of-sight. If you lose sight of your riding partner you'll soon lose contact. Other than that normal limitation of FM transmissions, it simply can't be beat for bike-to-bike comms.

John
you would need two Autocomm units and 2 Kenwood Freetalks - to do bike to bike I did that set up for my wife and me. -- As for the autocomm GB - I am currently interested in another headset for my other helmet and a couple of cables

Re: Any interest in an Autocomm Communicator Group Buy? - May '08?
As an Autcomm owner, I can say these systems are great. If I didn't already have the Active Plus installed on the FJR, I'd be in on this.
I have my Zumo and my Sansa mp3 player plugged in. The rider/passenger comms is great, even at triple digits. You may need to tweak the vox setting a bit, but once you get everything dialed in, it's very clear. And my tunes (both from the Zumo and the Sansa) are in stereo. I use their adaptor so I can use my Challenger molded earplugs with the speaker built-in. I don't have it set up for bike to bike, nor do I have it set up for my phone. So far I'm just not needing to have my phone interfaced while on the mc. If I need to make a call, I can pull over and if someone's calling me, s/he can leave a message. You can run it off bike power or with a 9v battery if you want to keep it portable. Mine's hard wired but I have run it on battery power and it worked just fine. Lasted all day but that was intercom only. |

Re: Any interest in an Autocomm Communicator Group Buy? - May '08?
Doing the Autocom setup for 2 bikes seems really expensive compared to doing just 2 chatterbox's or am I missing something If so enlighten me
