Re: 1000 Mile Journey to NorCal - Pashnit & Cycle World Magazine
Then it was off to ride the wilds of Marin County. The little bikes rocketed on ahead. The YRS50 & XR80 were in their element. I pulled up the rear and lumbered onward aboard the Yamaha Venture. On a road like Fairfax-Bolinas Rd (which you can see on the map above), this 700+ machine is like riding a giant rubber band.

Off into the wilds of Marin County. Have always had a sweet spot for these roads.
![]() Brilliant green this year too!

Old farm house, reminds me of the one I grew up in.
![]() ![]() My attempt at a Com3 shot. ![]() http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/MarinCounty.htm The route we took through Marin County is very similar to this, the eastern portion through the heart of Marin.

Re: 1000 Mile Journey to NorCal - Pashnit & Cycle World Magazine
A break in Tomales...
Allan Girdler & David Edwards discussing in depth the history and berth of Harley Davidson. Really, they were. ![]() The XR80 ![]() One of the roads I showed the Cycle World staff was a rather unknown one you'd easily pass by. Bay Hill Rd just outside of Bodega Bay. It's pretty much a goat trail, but runs up and over the ridgeline down into Bodgea Bay on the north side. Bit of favorite with the sportscar crowd.

Re: 1000 Mile Journey to NorCal - Pashnit & Cycle World Magazine
Okay, ready for some Highway 1 photos?
You can never tire of these, and I made the comment the other day that no matter how many of these I look at, even shot at the same places- they always look different, fresh, and quite becoming. Can't help but fall in love with Highway 1 along the Pacific Coast. From here, we made our way north to Fort Bragg. ![]() Ah, that view! ![]()

Good twisty section. Some of you well-travelled riders will recognize this sequence.
![]() Same spot ![]() Ah, there it is. I recognize that he's thinking.

Re: 1000 Mile Journey to NorCal - Pashnit & Cycle World Magazine
![]() One of my favorites... *sighs* ![]() You may also recognize this.... It's Meyers Grade Rd that runs up the ridgeline and parallels Highway 1. Eventually, it becomes Tin Barn Rd, and runs headlong into Skaggs Spring Rd. Continuing northward will turn into Annapolis Rd.

Re: 1000 Mile Journey to NorCal - Pashnit & Cycle World Magazine
Okay, better go get something to drink. Some chips maybe.
We'll wait. Ready for more??? More sighing. Note that it's incredibly green this particular spring. Last year, I took this same exact picture on a different Pashnit Tour and the color was quite different. There's a section of Highway 1 where it does a lil up and over. This is where the super-duper twisties are. And 'up' means hundreds of feet above the ocean atop these cliffs. Which occasionally have a tendency to fall off into the ocean. ![]() Okay, ready for some cows? I think I need a cow smilie. ![]() This one was right on the edge of the road. Mind you this blind corner in front of you.
