Wow Johnny -looks like you and Micki had a heck of a trip! I'm headed up that way early next month (or maybe late this month it all works out as planned!). My plan is to ride up the coast as far as Bandon, then cut across 42S to Coquille then 42 over to Roseburg, where I'll take 138 across to Crater Lake before working my way back down south on 97, to 140 to to 395 and home across Tioga Pass after a brief visit to Reno, Virginia City and Bodie.

Re: Oregon Mid-Pacific Coast 06-08-08
yesser we are on quite a trip...
crater lake last weekend... the or-a-goon coast this weekend... st helens and mt adams next weekend... if the roads are open... and finally hells canyon and the rattlesnake before we head back to the midwest for meetings... upon our return in july we will have 2 weekends in the seattle area... than back to cali... its 50 degrees and raining here in portland... roads to mt hood and mt helens are closed down or unmotobikeable due to snow... the weather is crazy here... heceta head is 80 miles north of brandon... i think its worth a look... the 42 looks nice on the map too... really nice... it was hard to keep the bug eye brick reigned in on the 138... but seeing at least 8 leos on that stretch kinda kept us at just 9 over... at least thats what i was telling micki... sounds like an epic ride you are gonna have there tripletree... we will be back in vi-town in september... ... j... o... |

Man, that is my back yard!! My Mom lived in Yachats for about 10 years before she passed, and loved it, which meant that Heceta Head was about halfway to her house from Florence, and we went past it every time. Looks like you caught the very rare clear weather we've had lately, way to go!!
42 and 42S are both great rides. Just about any of the rides from the coast to the central corrider are neat, with 42 and 34 being my current faves, though to be honest, I have not ridden the northwest corner roads yet. The roads to Crater Lake are awesome too, but with all the snow we've had lately, the north rim road is not likely to be open yet.
