Very nice, looks like a lotta fun was had by all.

Looks like a great view from the tower at Big Hill Fire Lookout.

Is the general public allowed in the tower? If so do you have to call ahead or just show up?

Mark, the Big Hill Fire Lookout is located along Ice House Road. It's paved to the top and open to the general public. Anyone is welcome to walk on up to the fire lookout and chat with Walt, the lookout there.

To find it, there's no sign really for the road, other than a small 'Heliport' sign on the side of the road. It's actually a four-way intersection, and it's Wrights Lake Rd that heads east (to Ice House Reservoir) and west is up to the lookout.

The 360 degree view is so incredible, it's almost a travesty for any rider not to stop by if riding Ice House Rd. On a clear day, you can see west clear across the entire state of California! Well, for the most part anyway.

Great pics Tim, Obviously the air is cleaner in northern California and thats why your Pics are so clear. Try your camera down hear Sir and see if you can Photoshop this smog out.

Great pics as usual Tim! I love the looks of those passes! Why did I have to get married 2 weeks before they opened?

Re: Describe Magic. The Pashnit Way.

Here's some more from this ride. It's quite rare that I am ever in the pics, as I'm typically the one taking all the photos. Or the riders have pics of me taking pics. On Saturday, I split the tour into two groups. Our smaller group spent much of the day taking photos along Hwy 108 & Hwy 4. Sort of a Photography Tour.

But this time, I had my buddy Jeff along, had his 2 day old camera & is a big photo nut. So we worked on trying to get some really spectactular shots. Here's a sampling of what we worked on, he's a really talented guy! (& I need to get his camera!)

Re: Describe Magic. The Pashnit Way.

Pretty much describes how I feel when we're riding around the Sierra Nevada. Think Handel's Messiah.

What's fun about this photo, and we did several runs at this, is how fast do you think I am going?

Actually about 25mph. Really slow to give Jeff time to compose the shot, then at the last second cut the corner and insert lean into the pic. Came out okay. Takes a bit of practice to do action shots like this & get the positioning of the objects just right.
