Choices
After 20 + years of living in rural Alaska, I have finally moved to the big city, Anchorage. In doing so, the move has provided me with choices. I can now choose to dine at a restaurant where I don’t have the menu memorized and the waitress doesn’t ask me if I want “the usual”? I also can choose which of the two roads out of town I wish to travel. I can now go North or South, and I can travel less then 50 miles before I have to make another decision on whether to continue North, or South and then travel West or West. Yup life is good I have fast food, stoplights, traffic lights, rush hour traffic and best of all I am within easy driving distance to Alaska.
I took advantage of the Southern route last week. A friend of mine from work and I ventured South on the Seward Highway and went to Seward. It is a quick trip of around 120 miles one way with some great scenery along the way. We met up at a Starbucks around 0830 for a quick shot of caffeine before our adventure. It was overcast and cloudy but we decided that if we were going to wait for a sunny day; we could miss all 28 days of summer. I didn’t take any photos along Turnagain Arm because there wasn’t much sun and fog / cloud photos aren’t that interesting. I did take a few in Seward and on the way back when the sun decided to peak out. Hope you enjoy the few I did take, and I will ride South again when the sun comes out so I can take some photos of Turnagain Arm and share those with you. Nothing like a Bucket O Butt for lunch….Halibut that is, too bad it was closed, maybe next time. ![]() The true starting point of the Iditarod ![]() Fish weigh in ![]() Fish Cleaning Stations ![]() Under the Fish Cleaning Stations ![]() Scenery from the ride back ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Choices
Very nice shots. Ever frequent the area up near Healy? I have relatives in those parts. One day I might ride up there from No Name City; I'd like to see Denali.

Wife told me the same thing about under the cleaning station....the reason I took it was because in Valdez we, (the City Tax Payers), spent around $125k for a stainless steel dead fish slide. Seward seems to have solved the problem using a lot less money. Next time I am in Valdez I will bring back photos. It does make for some great seagull and raven photos. Quote:

Re: Choices
Jeff,
I never get tired of looking at pix from your state, even the fish guts. The mountains and the water are tremendous. Thanks for posting. More, please. Ally

Re: Choices

Re: Choices
Thanks Mark and Ally...
By the way, follow the boat that takes the fish guts out to be dumped and set your shrimp pots or crab pots there.....can you say gumbo ?About that city boy deal..... found out I get to pay $30 more a month for car insurance, the city of Anchorage has a vehicle tax of an extra $25 per vehicle, and I have to get a city IM inspection for around another $50 to $70. The IM inspection was supposed to be dropped in 2009, but the bureaucrats from the city just can't let go. Sorry for the rant....

Re: Choices
Really beautiful where you live. I have some relatives who work on fishing boats in Alaska. I still have some of the huge fish and crabs they brought back during their vacation.
