Greensboro to Boston
Hi folks,
I’m brand new to the group. I came across this site in searching for good motorcycle roads. I’ve been riding bikes for a long time but I am fairly new to touring and to GPS. I have made a couple of 600mi short trips in the past but now I have started in on a very large trip that covers coast-to-coast and boarder-to-boarder. I just completed an awesome 1000mi segment through TN and NC. My next segment is from Greensboro, NC to just south of Boston. I just got a new Zumo 450 to help out with this trip but I don’t have the memory chip yet and I really don’t know much about how to use it yet. Normally, I’m not in too much of a hurry on my trips but this one I have less than 2 days. I know I don’t have much time to kill but I would at least like to see the roses along the way and, of course, stay off the superslabs as much as possible within reason. This is basically a bike reposition run to stage for the next segment. I’m thinking of running from Greensboro, either up the Shenandoah area or Virginia Beach Coast. Either route needs to end up just south of Boston. Any bike friendly routing advice would be greatly appreciated. My bike is a 2003 Triumph Trophy 1200 Sport Touring. Thanks, Jim |

Re: Greensboro to Boston
Hi Jim welcome aboard !
Can't help much on the route as I haven't ridden much west of the Mississippi. I can tell you to check the GPS threads here on Pashnit for some Zumo help, also there is a Great Zumo forum that will answer most questions and give you help with Zumo operations. A 1 or 2 gig SD card should be all you need and those are pretty cheap $20 bucks at Best Buy and you are in. Not sure about the 450, but my 550 came with map source and you can use that to layout your route. The Zumo Forum has a good tutorial on how to use it. Can't wait to see some photos of your ride!

Re: Greensboro to Boston
Jeff,
It’s coming together now. I got a 2GB card, MapSource and fresh updates. The Zumo Forum is awesome! I was successful in transferring my homebuilt route from MapSource to my 450. It seems to work with or without the SD card. I’m not sure if the card is actually being used? I think the route data is being stored in the Zumo’s internal memory. Maybe the SD card is primarily for mp3 and route sharing. I posted something in reference to this in the Pashnit GPS section. I’m learning. It’s frustrating but I’m getting it. Most importantly, I’m running my Trophy across the USA! Happy 4th Thanks, Jim |

Re: Greensboro to Boston
Two weeks ago I ran a 1000mi segment through TN and NC. The pics were taken on Tuesday am at a pullover spot on the infamous “Tail Of The Dragon”. A lot of bikes were out but I think it was just a typical summer day at the Dragon. Here is a shot of Deals Gap. It’s where everyone seems to congregate before and after the ride.
