A July 4th Celebration - 1126 Miles Worth!

The July 4th weekend was a good excuse for logging a few miles, 1126 miles round trip per the GPS.

My buddy Seth had some business to attend to in Muncie, Indiana which he had pretty much wrapped up by 10am on Saturday morning. From there it was on to southern Indiana and some fun twisty backroads. I always thought Seth was a Iowa Hawkeye fan, but the first thing he wanted to see when we got to Bloomington was this place:

Actually, I was surprised they didn't tow Seth's bike from in front of the Indiana University Union building that night - our lodging for the night. Somehow the Iowa Hawkeyes flag stood out like a sore thumb.

Brown County State Park - West Lookout Tower

Two Road Urchins:

I had just started to soak in the peaceful beauty of this place, when the noise started. Leave it to a rowdy Hawkeye to come to Indiana and disturb the peace:

The Iowan actually proved himself a pretty good shot with a camera:

The Silver Bullet:

One of these days I might get a red bike:

Another inspiring ride, Mark.

I love the hooliganism on the wings.

That shot of the hawk should be in a kid's science book somewhere. I've saved it to show my kids for their homeschooling. I hope you don't mind.

You are displaying an obvious talent for photography each time you post. I can't wait for the next ride!

Indiana keeps looking better and better. Don't get me wrong I won't be packing up anytime soon. But if I had to go, I wouldn't complain.

What is mounted to the right edge of his fairing?

It looks like (he says, shifting into "Potential Problem Analysis" mode) a spear, in the event of a go-down.

Sean,

Those are Baker-Built Air Wings, or just Baker Wings, quite popular with GoldWing owners. They direct air toward or away from your body as temperature conditions dictate. In cool weather, you can direct the warm air from the radiator toward you, and the hand wings mounted off the bottoms of the mirrors keep cold air off your hands. In hot weather, you can adjust the cooler air toward you.

Very nice pix, Helmetdance.

I have very fond memories of Dinianna [absent the sloshy dirty times between snow storms and the oppressive jungle heat of summer]. Man, what beautiful countryside. Thanks for letting me see again what I been missing for some 35 years.

Hope you can get up to lower Michigan's wine country and the Dunes for some shots too..... Ahhh, college days were suhweet!

Seth's are not totally clear, they're a light shade of grey. It's just the angle they're at relative to the camera that makes them hard to see in that pic. Take a look at the links I sent, they show some darker ones which give a better idea of how they work.

Oh! I get it. The "spear" I see is actually the edge of the wing which is angled to route the air toward him.

(You know, those would work on my SilverWing...)
