North Georgia Mountains, Labor Day weekend

The wife and I went up to the mountains this past Sunday. We did some short loops around Dahlonega and Helen, hwys 60/180/348. In the morning there wasn't too much traffic and it was a little cooler than it had been lately. There were plenty of bikes. In the afternoon the crowd from Atlanta started to make their way towards Helen and the traffic was terrible. That's when we decided to head home. We took a few photos, enjoy.

We took a break at Lake Winfield Scott off of Hwy 180, Wolfpen Gap Rd. The lake was really pretty and inviting in the late summer heat. The mountains look cloudy and gray but in reality that's a pretty common sight in the summer as the humidity builds. Enjoy the rest of the photos.

And here are a few more...We have some great riding in the mountains only about an hour from my home. We just don't have the number and variety of roads to ride like you lucky folks out west. One thing we do have is plenty of GREEN foliage.

Hey, a lake named after my great + grandpa (General Winfield Scott)!

The scenery is so lush back there, thanks for the share.

Lake Winfield Scott is a very scenic, peaceful place but the history of the local area and the Cherokee "Trail of Tears" isn't so pretty.

We forget here in CA what really green, lush foilage looks and smells like. I really miss it. When I visit my parents in Columbus, I can smell the earth in the air... I love it. Nice pics, thanks for posting!!
