Nice Sunday Ride (No Pics)

Yesterday I went on a morning ride with a couple of motorcyle riding co-worker friends. I was on my RSTD, Dave was on his 1985 Kawasaki LTD 454 and Rob was riding his 2005 HD Road King with his wife Debbie as pillion. (She has a sporty but isn't comfortable riding in a group yet).

This would be my first real test of my new bike. I had the 600 mile service performed Saturday, so I was ready to see what the bike (and I) could do.

Since it was my idea, they made me ride point. That was okay because I knew the route we wanted to take.

We started off heading north on Sierra College Boulevard in Roseville for about 10 miles to Highway 193 near Lincoln, CA. This is just a country road, but we saw some nice stuff including a beautiful huge hawk on the telephone wire shortly after take-off. Lots of bicyclists sharing this road with us too.

We turned right on 193 to head back toward Newcastle. This is a nice little 11 mile stretch with various twists and turns through vegetation. I was pleasantly surprised at how agile my big bike can be.. it may not be "flickable" but it is certainly leanable.. weebles wobble but they don't fall down?

After that bit of fun, we jumped on interstate 80 east for a couple of miles and exited at Foresthill road. Stopped for breakfast at the Baker's Square restaurant where we encountered at least a dozen Harley's in the parking lot. Looks like were weren't the only bikes out for a nice Sunday ride.

After breakfast we jumped on Foresthill road and enjoyed that 17 miles of sweeping turns over canyons and through forest. I pointed out the turn to Mosquito Ridge Road, but we did not take it. We stopped in town for a few minutes as Debbie told me at breakfast that the passenger seaton that bike is good for "about 20 minutes". Rob's getting a new seat soon.

We headed back down to Auburn, jumped on 80 for a couple of miles and exited at Indian Hill Road. Took that short but scenic ride to Auburn Folsom road to head back toward Roseville. That's just a great Sunday road with curves and vegetation - some great views of Folsom lake in the distance and pretty "country".

Then Dave and I headed back to my place for some swimming & barbecue lunch with my family.

All in all I was very pleased with my bike and this day. All through my trip I kept looking at the road thinking "That would be a good pashnit picture.. oh! That would also be a good pashnit picture".. Next time I'll remember my camera and maybe do the trip alone for picture's sake.

Hey that sounds like a nice trip! How did you resist the urge to ride down Mosquito Ridge Road after all the neat pics and info here???? I would sooooo want to ride it!

Hubsters Suz Intruder pillion is not much more comfy.... I start feeling it after about an hour.... when we rode over Tioga and back, plus all the side runs that day, my lower body was nearly numb. Told hubby that I was gonna ride me own from then on..... like the seat was the deal.... hah!

I too need to remember to snag the camera on trips.... we have a ride tomorrow and I am gonna put in the camera right now.

Hugs!

Re: Nice Sunday Ride (No Pics)

Well Pat,
Sounds like both you and the bike did fine!! Glad to read these writeups and i finally have a moment to actually post a few replies!!

The road up to Foresthill was one of the first rides i took last year and i had a blast. That bridge was absolutely amazing...so high up!! I also rode 49 from Auburn to Placerville, which for a newbie had a bit more challange than i desired, however it made me tough right off!!!

Congratulations!! Sound like a great day, especially the swimming and bbq...it is so damn HOT right now there are days i feel like i could
cheers and great ride,
donna
