I am calling a discovery ride. Not really an adventure trip, but there might be some dirt tracks involved, so I am putting it in this section.

Meeting at the Tres Pinos gas station.
Meeting at the Safeway gas station in Hollister at Tres Pinos rd and Airline Hwy intersection.

All right. Last call people. I just mounted a new rear TKC. 1h30 total, and hardly any swearing. Not bad for only the second time. Maybe I will change the front tire tomorrow.

I found that thread on ADV very helpful although I broke the bead with a 2x2 piece of wood.

Your route is very similar to a ride I'm doing this weekend. Our ride starts Friday in San Jose. The only difference, we're going further south. Maybe we'll see each other on the road.

8am at the Safeway gas station in Hollister works for me. I'll need to swing into Coalinga once we reach Hwy 198 to fill up the tank prior to Parkfield. We should be fine from there with gas stops at Paso Robles and King City.

Yep. I do not have a much different range than you. I will carry an extra 2.5 gallons just in case any of us cannot make it to Coalinga. I estimate about 100 miles from Hollister to Coalinga. That should be all right, even for the fat pumpkin

Spent some time flight checking my bike tonight and getting my gear ready for Saturday. It's been a while since I've been on a long day ride. Getting pretty psyched as we'll see some nice back country for sure on Eryk's Steinbeck loop.

Here's my morning route over to the meet location in Hollister (click on map for details). It's going to be an early rise on Saturday morning to make it there by 8am. I like the motivation.

Checking in. Dave disappeared from my side view mirrors somewhere on Laureles Rd.

Total for the day: 12h40min for 445 miles (716 kilometres).

Thank you to Dave, Phil and Tom for making this ride a reality. I think the best road of the day was Parkfield-Coalinga Rd. Feel free to start a road report, I think it is going to take me a while to sort through the pictures.

A very good day, I think despite all the gates. At least now we know.

PS: Did anybody see the Hernandez Reservoir? I have no memory of it!
