How to link and display Google Maps and MapQuest Maps.
I've been asked this question a few times and thought it might be worth a quick tutorial for the rest of us (including myself who learned by trial and error). I'm using Google Maps and MapQuest as they seems to be the easiest and most accessible internet navigation aids.
Step #1 Go to Google Maps or MapQuest and make your map (I'll use directions to my Favorite Deli in Big Bear). Step #2 Get an internet link address to the map you just made. On Google Maps, It will be in the top right of the map portion, as so: ...And on MapQuest, It will be in the top center of the map, as so: At this point, there are two ways you can go. You can click on the hyperlink option at the top of your post page on Pashnit and be done with it (we'll call this "option A"). If you do it this way, you can set a word or phrase as your hyperlink, as I always do. Step 3 A Once you have highlighted your word or phrase by dragging your "left clicked" mouse over the selection, as so... My Map (Look familiar? )Step #4 A ...Click on the Hyperlink option on the post page, as so: Then, just cut and paste your link (from Step #2) into the box in the pop-up. Make sure there is ONLY ONE "http://" in the address once you have pasted. ...But I like to get a little more creative (we'll call this "option B"). What we're about to do is put a picture of the map area as a teaser and have that picture be the link to the map. Cool, Huh?! ![]() First you have to take a "desktop snapshot" of your map (On my PC, I do this by typing [Alt][PrtSc], and then pasting it to a Microsoft Paint page, giving me this: Once I have done this, I crop the screen shot down to just the map (by cutting the map out of the "snapshot" and then pasting it onto a new Paint page), as so: After I have saved the image as a Jpeg(!!!!), ususally just to the desktop, I then embed the picture into the text where I want it (for further directions on how to embed pics, see THIS tutorial). On your "post" screen, the pic will show as a number with attachment brackets around it, as so: Once you have done this, follow steps #2 through #4A from above, but this time you will highlight the whole "attachment" with your mouse, not just a word, as so: Now, the whole picture of the map becomes your link to the map page. Go ahead, click on the picture below... I hope this works for you!

On Step #4A be sure to only put ONE http: in there or the link won't work.
Thanks Mathew |

Actually, BusaJim from New Jersey. You may not be able to. Most of these forums have rules, and now I am looking all over and can't find the rules for this forum, but the rule usually is, you can't post links or photos, or maybe some other things til you have at least 15 posts.
So keep posting. Or wait til someone else cerrecks me on this rule, or lack thereof. dc |
