Vacation, from Mt. Rushmore to Yellowstone & more.
Just got back from vacation. We did a bus trip not a bike trip. We cheated and flew to Rapid City, SD. From there we saw both the Crazy Horse monument and Mt Rushmore.
From there we took I 90 to Billings, Mt. For speed yes other wise it's just another highway. Rain on and off the whole trip, bring rain gear. By far Harley's were the brand on the move. 100 H-D's for every Honda or other brand. Then we took Hwy 72 & 120 to go down to Cody, Wy. In Cody we saw the Buffalo Bill Museum. Lots to see there. Ate at a place called Granny's. Middle of town right across from a big western store. Food was OK. |

Re: Vacation, from Mt. Rushmore to Yellowstone & more.
We continued on to the Eastern entrance of Yellowstone on Hwy 20. Nice ride. We stayed at the Old Faithful in. I don't know what it cost, I'm sure it was expensive. Free mice in most rooms. No connections to the outside world except cell phones. Spent the entire next day traveling around the park.
We saw both the upper and lower falls in Yellowstone's own " Grand Canyon". Never saw a moose, bear or eagle. Most of the bison where right at the Old Faithful in. Then we took Hwy 191/26/89 down to Jackson. In my opinion Jackson is a very expensive tourist trap. But getting there you go through the Grand Teton's which just jump out of the prairie. We then went down to Montpelier and Garden City. You want to go on the West side of Big Bear Lake. Hwy 89 has a scenic bypass that goes through Logan Canyon down to Logan, it would be a great ride. It was nice in the bus. Our driver Kevin was using the " Pace " through the canyon. I envy you guys, women included, who are doing this by bike. Bill |

Vacation, from Mt. Rushmore to Yellowstone & more.
was out there MANY years ago Bill - saw everything you saw except the Crazy Horse Monument was still an "idea" on paper then...the evening show at Rushmore was "inspiring" to say the least.
![]() have many fond memories of that area and want to get back there again someday.

Bill, those are some fine shots!!
What a great vacation. I was in Jellystone two years ago (wow, was it really that long??) and would love to go back. I have never been to Mt. Rushmore, and will just have to add it to the bucket list. Thanks for the gorgeous photos!

Nice pictures Bill.
I'll have to visit that Crazy Horse monument one day. Mind you it's interesting seeing other people's photos that show how it's developing. I guess it's going to take a while yet... Stephen |

Re: Vacation, from Mt. Rushmore to Yellowstone & more.
We were there, Rushmore and Crazy Horse in 07. Crazy Horse is a tourist trap that will never be finished. I feel sorry for the Native American's that have put their hopes in a monument to one of their fallen hero's.
We will be heading back to the area on the 4th of July. We will be planning on seeing Yellowstone, Bearpass Hiway and on to Utah. We ride Honda Goldwings and are not followed by backup vehicles nor do we haul or bikes to the area we plan to tour. Our trips are on our Goldwings all the way. |
