2009-06-27: Big Tujunga + More Angeles Crest

Headed out on my own today, with the intent of stopping to take lots of pictures. Got out of the house a little late, but ended up with very little traffic so everything worked out okay.

Route for the day was to hit Big Tujunga up towards Palmdale, then over to Wrightwood for lunch, duplicating a ride I did almost two years ago with Dale and Matthewp.. Instead of coming back over Big Tujunga, however, I wanted to check out the Angeles Crest since it's open all the way through now.

Big T was nice. I remembered how terrible the bottom section was, but at least it wasn't under water.

It got pretty warm once you came out of the mountains, but nothing too unbearable.

Cruisers enjoying the straight bits a lot more than I do:

I cruised past the Post Office and the infamous mislabeled turn but didn't stop - I was on a mission for lunch! Hit up the Grizzly Cafe in Wrightwood with the other motorcyclists.

Finally, on to Los Angeles Crest Highway! The sign doesn't lie:

And I had the right tools for the job:

The problem with getting on this road intending to take pictures is that you could potentially pull over at every turnout for photo opportunities.

The view:

It's miles and miles of neverending turns:

Just gotta watch out for hooligans:

It's a little more serene without the squids:

Took the 748 for a little offroading? Sure is pretty...

You just can't get enough:

Very nice ride! Brings a tear to my eye with the fond memories. I'm now using the Crest as my commute route to see Dale. Great road... Even if someone complained the 55mph spped limit is too slow!

Very nice.

Thanks Keith. It's on my list for my next visit (which looks as though it'll need at least six weeks).

Love the first panorama.

Love the panos! Another road I hope to ride in 2 weeks, just because it's Angeles Crest.

super nice post , Keith! Can't wait to ride that road! I've been up it years ago (by car) but of course, never on a bike! Great pics too...such beautiful scenery. I loved the pano shots!

That guy with his leg out dirt bike style looked funny though!

The crest is a great ride. Newcombs ranch is a good spot to stop for a bite. I was up the yesterday with 200+ spyders in cal. for the west coast spyder rally. A good ride was had by all.
