Re: Dealer / shop ratings in your area

FML!!! Only a month after putting a possitive plug in for MotoMarin, I get an email from them saying that they have to shut down. According to one of their reps, BMW had called and informed them that they are safe and won't be shut down. Then a week after that, BMW vans roll up and pull all the inventory out of the place. Damn it! now I have to find another dealer.

MotoMarin was very good to me and I'm very sad to see them go. My best wishes to all that were a part of MotoMarin!!!

Nevada Suzuki, on Boulder Hwy. in Las Vegas NV

Great old-time shop, where the owner knows everything about every bike Suzuki has ever built. A real dyed in the wool lifetime enthusiast. Wonderful thing to see in this day of the mega-YamaHonSuzuKawi dealer, filled with car-salesman types.

Just called Nevada Suzuki to see if, by some chance, they had a teflon-coated slider bushing that goes inside the front forks of an 02 GS500 (wifes bike). To my amazement, they did have one in stock. I've also found they have lots of parts for my old 79 GS1000. Amazing. But, really the way it should be.

As far as Southern California Motorcycles in Brea are concerned - their parts dept is excellent . I am a small independant shop and travel a long way to buy any Triumph and Ducati parts i need from them due solely to the excellent service i get from Tony in parts . No inquiry is too big or small and when he says he will have to call me back - he does!!. He does'nt mind i'm competition . You need parts - call Tony .

Bad experience here and a hearty "do not recommend" for service. Called and set up an appt a week early to diagnose a leak in the final drive diff on my 2010 Concourse. I pretty well already knew that I needed a new internal seal, but understood that for warranty reasons they would need to pull it apart and diagnose.
Brought the bike on a Thur afternoon...figured they would check it out the next day. Nothing from them on Fri, so rang them Saturday afternoon after waiting patiently. They were "getting to it". By late afternoon they called and agreed that it needed new seals, etc and would be repaired under warranty. Parts would be ordered, in by next biz day, fixed by Tue/Wed.
When the next Wed rolled around and still no word, I called again, turns out they forgot to order the parts, incredible.
Called Friday, they had the parts, but didn't have the tools they needed to do the repair, they were sending their tech to harbor freight and sears to see if they had the right size bearing puller (now I'm wondering is this a real dealership, or some guys backyard shop).
Finally done at close of business Saturday, having had my bike for 9 days, for 1.5 hours of labor. Just amazing.
Avoid 'em......

Thumbup M Racing in Glendora

This is the most knowledgeable and passionate group of guys I've seen at any shop. All these guys race (one is a pro) and know motorcycles inside and out. Dave is the front man who answers phones and takes orders. He always gives me straight answers with any questions I have. If you are geeky with your motorcycle knowledge, he'll give you everything you'll ever want to know. They specialize mostly in sport bikes and road racing. So if you have a different type of bike, it helps to have an idea of what you want before you go in. They do everything from basic maintenance to prepping your bike for AMA racing. I've seen Harleys, a CB400 Super Four, the latest CBR's, various off road bikes, and anything else being worked on here.

Every time I have something I cannot do in my garage, I take it to them and they always do a flawless job. Talk to Dave. The other guys in the back are the quiet and silent type.

This shop had an AMA Superbike a couple years ago too. It's a small garage. Give them a try if you're nearby. I highly recommend them.

Found out about this guy from J O, who had left the Burd with him for some major surgery while he and M O are in SFO for a few weeks.
(....J O & M O in SFO.....too many "Os".....)

Anyway, Lior has now moved to his own shop in Corona, which just happens to be a 2.5 mile walk from when I am staying at the moment.
I had Lior service the RT and install a new rear tire and the service was speedy, the price was right and he was a definite joy to work with.
(and bumped into Geno while I was there...)

We talked about my upcoming 24K service and I will definitely be taking the RT to him when the time comes...
(saving mucho dollars !!)

If you need BMW or KTM (he's one of them "dirty" guys ) service, he's the guy to go to.
(BTW.....the guys on ADVRider think he is almost a god in the moto-mechanic world).

Check him out: Lior's Moto Ride - Corona, CA

West Coast GP Cycles has a great reputation with the folks I ride with. Andy is top notch and really knows his business. Very reasonable prices as well.

Re: Dealer / shop ratings in your area

I concur with Bruce about Lior..... I have been taking my Beemer 2004 1150rt to Lior for about three years now.... He is a fantastic motorcycle mechanic. He rides almost every weekend himself... I'm sure Malcom Smith wiLL vouch for Lior's abilities...Lior is a certified BMW Master Mechanic and goes above and beyond when you take your bike to him..... He takes his time... He is very honest and a perfectionist, takes tons of pride in his work..... And his prices compared to dealer prices are super- great..!..... Give him a call..(951-415-5668) he wiLL save you tons and you wiLL know your bike is in top shape when you leave his shop! I believe he works on other bikes as well! 73s geno PS..... Hey Bruce.. Great meeting you at Lior's ... finally in person........ ! best wishes
