October Ride

Every October, I always take a couple of days to ride north from my home near Atlanta and take in the fall colors. This year the leaves were spectacular, so I decided to ride up through Tennesee on TN 68 to Tellico Plains and then turn west on TN 30 through Dayton. I spent the night at Fall Creek Falls State Park near Spencer, TN. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

TN Highway 68 is a fantastic road. Lots of curves and very little traffic. At Tellico Plains, most riders go east on the Cherohala Skyway into North Carolina, but having done that many times, I decided to turn west.

Unfortunately, the front tire on my Multistrada didn't have much tread left, so on the first day, I chickened out and rode back home to get the Harley. Not quite as sporting, but much warmer behind that nice big fairing! Have you ever seen the movie "Inherit The Wind" with Spencer Tracy? It's about the "Scopes Monkey Trial." The real trial the play and movie are based on took place in Dayton, TN.

Fall Creek Falls State Park is the most visited park in Tennessee. It's namesake waterfall is the tallest east of the Rockys. It's a great park, with plenty of places to stay in and around it. I spent the night in the Inn, and then took the hike down to the base of the falls the next morning to work up my appetite for breakfast. All in all, a great weekend. Can't wait till next fall!

Re: October Ride

I would like to do a ride like this before the "big one". Somewhere around Indiana next spring. Great pics. Were there no shops close by to get a tire?

Re: October Ride

Not that I know of. That area is pretty remote. Besides, this was a Saturday. With motorcycle shops being closed on Sunday and Mondays, I couldn't chance the tire suddenly showing a bit of cord and then being stranded for two days. ( Or worse, trying to limp home on a completly bald tire!)

Re: October Ride

Madison Indiana has a beautiful state park called Clifty Falls.
Melvin if you want to make a Spring ride that would be doable for you in a day. There are several falls in the park simular to the one shown on here.

Everyone knows what "chicken strips" are but what do you call THAT wear pattern?

Re: October Ride

Nice photos. Good job on the ride report. How far did you get up the road before you decided to change bikes? I need to check out Falls Creek Falls. I'm one of those that turns right at Tellico Plains.

Re: October Ride

That tire pattern is a "Bald Eagle", not a good thing on a sunday.

Re: October Ride

You folks back east sure have a lot of beautiful fall colors. I particularly like the bike parked by trestle pic.
