New Must Have ATGATT- Air Bladder Vests/Jackets

By Hit-Air........Man I could have used this thing last saturday. It would have prevent the neck strain i had......IM so getting one of these vests after my bike is fixed! they even have Hi-viz. there is a CO2 cartrige that blows this thing up when you fall of the bike. I saw a video and you seriously have to yank it to start it. Simply walking off away from your bike and forgetting to unhitch from the tether wont inflate the system. Plus its rechargable at home. You just buy extra cartriges.

I've seen these products and they look interesting. I wonder about an inflation time of half a second. Considering an airbag inflates in about .04 seconds or faster, half a second in the world of motor vehicle accidents is a long time, and combined with the time it takes to activate the device by separating the rider from the bike, may miss the window of opportunity for preventing that deadly first impact. I'm not an expert though. Certainly better than nothing and probably great for sliding down the road after the get-off.

well they say that some of their newest products inflate in .13 seconds so things are improving.

Has Dainese marketed theirs yet? It has real pyrotechnics.

Re: New Must Have ATGATT- Air Bladder Vests/Jackets

I've got an air bladder vest. They don't inflate...they explode in an instant. Mine is by "Aire Tronics" It's VERY heavy compared to a regular biker vest.

I was a "guinea pig" at a demo for these. I wasn't about to fall off a bike, however the guy swung a louisville slugger right into my chest. All I felt was a good "whump" and energy that moved me about 10-15 feet. (He swung fairly hard.) If I was to take that energy without any protection, I'm sure I would have had busted ribs, punctered lung, bruised heart and a ruptured spleen. (Ok, I don't know if I would have had all that but I won't be feeling too good either.) I bought one then and there. It recharges with Co2 carts also.
I have extra carts so I ocassionally put it on someone I know and inflate it and then hit 'em!

A friend of mine is a CHP motor (rides the BMW.) I had him put it on and then gave him a couple whacks with his PR-24. (That's a "nightstick.") He thought it was great and could see a beneficial use to motorcyclists. He rides about 1500 miles a week, give or take.

Re: New Must Have ATGATT- Air Bladder Vests/Jackets

just got the mesh MX5 jacket and love it.

its great for warmer weather as it lets the air right thru, and when its cooler i just wear a sweatshirt under.

its great looking and comfortable both on and off the bike.

i got mine from jon at safer-moto and i highly recommend talking to him.

he's super helpful, really nice guy, and local (san rafael).
i actually went out to his place to try on the jacket and he was super accomodating.

highly highly recommend.
