DAY TWO
After good nights sleep I woke up to another beutifull day in my life... ![]() But this did not lasted long. I find out that most of the back roads in the park were closed due to the rains a couple days ago...what a bummer! So I desided to see the touristy part of DV .... ![]() ![]() ![]() After taking this guided tour of the lowest point in the USA...I reminded myself that crouds of city tourists are not my cup of tea and retreated in to some dark canyons looking for some peace and quaet... ![]() ![]() I spend the rest of the my day driving around the South part of the park... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I came back to the campsite before the dark and got the last aveilable campsite...

Re: Death Valley Here I Come!
DAY THREE
Next morning I noticed that my rear sprocket is pretty much done and I still had a long ride home... ![]() So instead spending another day and exploring North side of the park I headed home... ![]() I took couple small detours on the way back to check some stuff out... ![]() ![]() ![]() By the time I reached town of Trona my rear sprocket was not looking good at all... ![]() ![]() I still had a long way to go...including the mountain range crosing via one small and croocked road... and couple of hours hard pulling on the hwy 99... ![]() ![]() Several long hours later...right before the dark I pulled on to my street and the sprocked finaly gave up... Last 100 yards to my house I pushed my bike down the street...thinking about my luck and the best bike ever! ![]() ![]() The 2010 season is oficialy open...! ![]() ![]() Happy END... Great story and photos - Was up in Death Valley in January with LA#1H.O.G. - Beautiful place to ride as long as you wear your cold weather gear.

Re: Death Valley Here I Come!
Great ride report as usual! Never been to Death Valley so I'm in the process of planning a trip. That sprocket giveout is amazing, talk about good fortune in getting home.

Re: Death Valley Here I Come!
Hey Eddie --
Glad you made it into the valley. Love your Potos! And, Yeah, February can be pretty iffy in the valley for off road types. They don't do anything to the 'roads' till the chance of rain is pretty much over. I never figured out how to 'leave the wife home doing dishes on Valentines day...." Brave man! Cheers!

Re: Death Valley Here I Come!
Beautiful pics and interesting perspectives! Taking it to the extreme limit on that rear sprocket!
Life on the edge! Thanks for sharing. Got a pic of the front too?

Re: Death Valley Here I Come!
Be sure to change BOTH sprockets and the chain as a set. How many miles did you get out of your chain/sprockets? I get about 28,000 with a DID x-ring.
I surprised you didn't "feel" some vibration prior to your first pic as they were done then. Nice pics, btw. Always do a preflight before a trip... |

Here is a picture of my first sprocket (16K Miles vs 0 Miles).. ![]() I changed both sprockets and chain using all stock parts but installed smaller front sprocked (original 16 - I installed 15).... This time it lasted me 10000 miles...the chain looks good, the front sprocket looks good juat the rear sprocked got a little "wear and tear" ...I wonder if this was some kind of fluke...![]() Anyhow...It could be partialy my foult...you see, I do not lubricate the chain every time I add fuel in my tank....I do the lubrication part only once in a while ....and even then I make my wife to do the messy part... ![]() how the hell you get 28K on your chain and sprockets....it's a mistery to me... ...do you get in dirt at all...?
