Re: OR and WA coastal trip--camping, route advice

Ha Jim, I am self employed as well. One man band so I know what you mean about staying in touch. The trip looks like a nice on. Want a buddy to ride along with? I have a tent trailer that sleeps 2 with all the camping gear. Only draw back is I only tow it at 65mph.

The other thing is the wife is planing on doing the Girley ride so I will need to be around for that.

While traveling on 101 in Oregon plan on only averaging about 40 miles an hour. Traffic is thick and slow
Wow, had no idea 101 would be that slow... I may just cruise for a while along the coast then, or I'll be gone for 2 weeks. Altho I would LOVE that, time is prohibitive for that. Thanks for the tip on the free campground

Wow, that is really cool, your tent trailer. I would welcome the company, but I am not sure of the dates, and wont be, until a day or two before, most likely. Gotta get all my ducks in a row, and then blast off..lol I'll be happy to keep in touch with you on this tho. Sounds like the coast is pretty popular up there, so that tent trailer would certainly come in handy.

Gymbo...thanks for the tips

on the coast close to the border of Oregon just after Orick you will find a very nice camp site at prairie creek redwoods state park: I have camped there twice and always enjoyed it immensely ..

We stayed in Arcata last year instead of Fortuna. I would
suggest spending the night in Fortuna at one of the motels
next door to the Eel River Brewing Co. It'd also be cheaper.

Lodi to Red Bluff ... maybe you could consider doing 12 east
to just short of Rio Vista, and take Jackson Slough Rd north
(turns into Terminous Rd) into Isleton then follow 160 north
to the freeway.

BTW, US-101 from Crescent City to Brookings blows (yawn)
while Hwy 199 rocks. Take Hwy 199 to Hwy 197 instead as
it's a more enjoyable ride. Once north of Brookings, the coast
is stunning.

That said, be prepared to cut east from the coast if it gets
too congested out there or, for that matter, too cold and
windy.

Crater Lake then Lodi. I'd suggest 139 out of Klamath Falls to
Susanville then 36 west, 147 south, and 89 south to the jct
of 70/89.

Your choice of Feather River Hwy to Oroville or 89 south to
Quincy and CA-49. Can use Gold Hill Rd as shortcut btw 89
and 49.
