We've been hearing rumors all season that Bear Camp Road was open. There was even a newspaper article that stated that it was.
It isn't. From the "driver's seat" on the east end of the slide: ![]() From the west end... ![]() ...walking back toward the bikes... ![]() ![]() We gave a lot of consideration to trying to get the Wings over the path and past the slide, but, in the end, common sense prevailed. ![]() For orientation: ![]() The slide is in the vicinity of #2. There was an amazing amount of traffic for a dead end road. I guess a lot of folks have found that "Road Closed" and "Dead End" signs are not always factual - at least, not in Oregon. There was one possible detour, but we came up against a locked gate on that road. Well, maybe next year...

Re: Bear Camp Road (Grants Pass area to Gold Beach) is CLOSED
Is the road paved and just dirt in that area or is it dirt the whole way? Where you riding dirt the entire way? If so damn. I have taken the 954 through dirt and snow and rocks but a wing, I don't know.

Re: Bear Camp Road (Grants Pass area to Gold Beach) is CLOSED
The road is good, ergo somewhat narrow, pavement all the way - except for a few 100-foot pieces where, over the years, washouts have been repaired but not paved. No, I pretty much keep the Wing on pavement, although we've been known to ride a 'few' miles on gravel if it was packed well.

It looks open to me. I think my DR-Z can make it around that slide, or possably over it.

It's an easy path, and the rest of the road to Gold Beach is better than normal for Orygun back roads. The gravel portions are few and brief. These pics are from a little over a month ago during the Blossom Burn. |

Yes, it's one of my favorite rides - why don't some of you young guys ride up there and push a few more of the big rocks over the side, so my Wing'll fit a little easier?
