Rounding up the dogs
Following on from the recent Good deed of the day thread ...
........last night I got the opportunity to speak to the house owner following the fire which destroyed his shed ...............because I had to stop the traffic on the road outside his house and gather up his two dogs which were wandering about in the middle of it causing chaos........ they are both small dogs, and the leader of the pack is clearly a very cheeky little Jack Russell Terriier who was defiantly standing in the middle of the road barking at all the cars, with the other one close behind him for back up. I pulled over and put the hazard lights on again, and this time flagged oncoming traffic down to a stop whilst I persuaded the dogs to follow me back up their own driveway and led them back to the house........ all the way the Terrier was running around my heels and barking although not maliciously. The owner [turns out he's a commercial pilot] came out and we got chatting briefly once he'd put the dogs in the house - the Terrier had apparently got out of an open window in the lounge by climbing on the sofa [we all know dogs are not allowed on the sofa] and his cohort duly followed. The fire was caused by an electrical fault on a double power socket and although the building was almost completely destroyed it will be rebuilt. I could clearly see scorch marks on the underside of high branches on the big oak tree which stood behind it and we both reflected on how fortunate it was that there was no breeze that morning [it's been very windy here the last few days]. I'm glad to report that no one was hurt and that there was no further damage to personal belongings or property so alls well that ends well. Steve
