I did an awesome 375 mile ride today starting in Clovis/Fresno, hitting hwy 58, hwy 229, and hwy 1 up the coast from Morro Bay to just south of Santa Cruz, where my family has been spring-breaking it without me. I thought I would put some pictures up tonight for your viewing pleasure, especially for our snow-bound friends in colder climes
.As usual I have to fully detail the bike and get it all packed up before a multi-day trip. Here's the GT ready to go. ![]() I took care of some last-minute work at the office early this morning and was on the road by 0830. It was warm today so I had to stop and shed a lot of my winter gear when the thermometer pegged about 70. I made time south on hwy 41/33 to beautiful McKittrick, the start of hwy 58. The sign that strikes fear into peanut tanks everywhere. Not much gas in these parts, but I've got plenty of range. ![]() Man I love hwy 58. It's simply unbelievable. Hang on... ![]() Being springtime the hills are blooming like crazy. The air smelled thickly of lilac. Awesome. Love the twisties heading west... ![]() What a road... ![]() so many flowers today I had to force myself to keep riding instead of taking pictures... ![]() Delicious... ![]() Flower power... ![]() Scenery like this makes you glad to be alive and riding... ![]() ![]() ![]() And the weather was right in the sweet spot... ![]() Time for lunch. I much prefer a sandwhich under an oak tree in the middle of nowhere to a restaurant when I'm riding. I may have seen 2 cars go by while I ate for 20 minutes. ![]() Further west to a little delight called hwy 229. A perfect ribbon of asphalt weaving through the countryside dotted with estates with names like "Blue sky ranch". Based on what I saw you would need plenty of blue $ky to move into this neighborhood. This road takes courage because although there isn't a single bump, tar snake, or pothole on the whole road, there is no center line and lots of blind corners. Fortunately almost no traffic. hwy 229... ![]() And onto hwy 41 dropping down into Morro bay. The last 10 miles see the temperature drop 10 degrees. Felt great actually. Dunes. The fog here didn't last as just a few miles north on hwy 1 I found sunshine. ![]() I've taken so many pictures of hwy 1 that I'm just going to post a couple favorites from today... ![]() ![]() I've posted a lot more hwy 1 photos from a previous ride here: http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthr...hlight=highway All the way up the coast to Watsonville to join my family for some spring break R&R... Not a bad spot to post a trip report on Pashnit... ![]() I'm going to be here all week and plan to ride some of the local roads like Carmel Valley, etc. I may post some of those pics as well. |
