Re: LA to Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles
Those 11am checkout come to early. I woke at 8 and started the coffee. I drank in bed and journaled out all I could remember. It was good to be in the bed, Cash and Young, Dylan, and Hendrix playing and the pen moving. The coffee was strong and decent. The bed was big and too comfortable. When the writing was done I rolled over and prayed and prayed and prayed.
I walked around and shot and moved and thought and was and there is nothing you can do at the Grand Canyon, at least this rim, but be and suck and soak and let it all crash over your head like some steel stone wave. |

Re: LA to Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles
I went back to the room and packed up. I asked the concierge to hold my bags and gear until I was ready to leave. Remember next time, old Kyle, to bring the helmet bag. The nice, well-intentioned young man stuck my helmet upside down on some rough wood beam. I remedied the foul scene and moved out. I lit up a good cigar and sat down on a bench and overlooked the gorgeous, simply serene scene and soaked it down as much as one can. Voices disappeared and the smoke rose up. There she was. The walls dropped town. I sat on that bench for over an hour. The rush and the push of LA lie for you to keep moving. The madness of Manhattan softly screams to keep hustling, feet always shuffling. Here you softly slide down the rocky cliffs to the bottom of who you are. A lot of well laid plans can evaporate looking into the rocks. A lot of dreams can resurface too, wondering what you’ve done and why you haven’t yet done A or X and the search for meaning in front of something so massive is some Kubrick or Isaiah moment.

Enjoyed your trip photos. Noticed your avatar has a 6th gen VFR photo. How would you compare the two on a tour like this?

I think you could tuck in on the VFR and been comfy, and the seat gives more room to slosh around. The Tuono was OK though. Now I'm riding a 2005 Triumph Speed Triple which makes the Tuono seem like a luxury tourer. So it's of course all relative. Go(d) for it on whatever you're riding! |

Kyle,
Your trip sounds great. I just started a thread looking for some help planning a similar trip in April 2013. Any help with road selection would be great. Steve |
