Re: Death Valley Days

Thanks for the tip Matt. I do enjoy the authentic strange, but the purposefully strange has less appeal.

Thinks Knott's Berry Farm back when the Ghost Town was the main deal and you've pretty much got a picture of Calico, except it's bigger and they have real gold mines.

I very much enjoyed the story Alan! I agree that some things in the desert are just plain weird! Maybe the heat?? Keep the the reports coming.

Thanks for the metaphor Moedad (aren't you supposed to be in Virginia?)

Cyclhed, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the encouragement. Even though these are silly little stories, it takes a fair amount of time wastin' to get 'em put together and the two cents a week I'm earning is scant incentive. Alan I checked it out and enjoyed it also. I think it's great that you got into motorcycling starting on the small street bike then getting the dual purpose bike and the large street bike. I learned to ride the opposite way. I grew up in the desert outside of Reno and started riding in the dirt when I was 8. I got my first street bike at 15, a Kawasaki KZ400 and I've always had bike in the garage since. I've even built a couple of hard tail Harley choppers, the second of which I even went as far as to fabricate the frame; bending the steel tubing and welding it all together. And I've actually ridden those bikes for many miles, albeit uncomfortably. I've always enjoyed the freedom, adventure and relaxation that riding brings, be it on or off road, especially after a long week working behind a desk. I agree you guys should go out and gather some more material; maybe head north and visit us up here. There’s lots of crazies in Nor Cal!

Re: Death Valley Days

Hey Cyclhed, glad you liked it. I never know when I'm writing these things up if anybody other than me is interested. Most of the bikers I know started out with a dirt bike as a kid, but my mom would NEVER approve of that. Nor could we afford one. I had a buddy that had one but 90% of the time there was something broken on it - I probably got a ride or two in between broken spokes, chains, etc. I rode a moped for three years (in the winter - in the Northeast!) when I lost my license in NY, but it's not quite the same. I had my first baby when I was 24 and waited until she and her sister were in college before I got started with a real motorcycle. I'm having fun, hope my luck continues.
