You know you're old when your kids are grown, married, and gainfully employed; when all the money you make is your money; when nobody objects when you want to take a road trip; when ice cream for desert doesn't cause you to worry; when senior discounts are much appreciated.

Being old is awesome - and sure beats the alternative!

Re: You know you're getting old when...

I'm 73 and starting to feel a bit older after Cardiac angioplasty, but planning a trip to Durango in September, and Death Valley in November. Hoping I'm able to do it all. This motorcycling has been a major part of feeling young as I do (or did). Hope there are a few more years left of being able to ride.

Not quite there yet, but the time will come

OK Mark, quit scaring those approaching their senior years. At 80 I still get a thrill on Weds when we take our Oldfarts ride and to me life is still enjoyable. I can't imagine not being able to do the things I have done most of my life. Sure I don't have the zip in my walk or the duration I use to have but glasses are seldom worn, medication is one pill daily for the 5 years cancer shot and if I lost about 70 pounds I just might sign up for a marathon........NAW Hang in there and look on the bright side.....Ken

Re: You know you're getting old when...

I had an "aha" moment when I went to build a water feature with waterfall in our backyard a couple of years ago. I had all the rock I needed laying around the house in various places. This is rock I had gathered in the surrounding mountains. This is rock I packed to the pickup, loaded in the pickup, unloaded at home and packed down our very steep hill to the house.
I was in my late thirties. Eighteen years later there were a couple I could barely move let alone lift.

Old is a number, and you don't have to let it win! I've been 37 for a number of years now, and better now than when I really was 37! The memory loss? Blame it all on my kids!

Re: You know you're getting old when...

Lets see...your sergeant used to ride with you when he was an explorer scout. Your doctors are now younger than you are (well, some of them anyway). And I agree, the cops do look younger than they used to (but only if I get to be included in that batch.)

Can't do some of the things I used to do, but conversely, can do more things that I used to, riding a motorcycle among them. Memory problems? Use different tools to help. And yep, they're just numbers.

Re: You know you're getting old when...

Sort of related....

The wife wanted to go to one more shop in the mall. I had to choose between 5 minutes in Victoria's Secret or the Apple store.

I chose the Apple store.
