North-south road, silver fork road, and deer season

I am off again on Sunday Oct. 30 , this time with the forest service maps in the area east and west of Morman Emigrant trail. Silver Fork Road is one road I will check out, along with any other road that is mostly paved, its like a playground with all the roads there. My question is last time I was on North-South road it was deer season and I assume it will still be the 23rd. Should there be a concern about exploring the back roads in the area during deer season. Is is safe to assume the hunters know where all the paved roads are, and they will always be shooting in another direction. I think I was very close to where they were shooting at. Exploring back roads by myself in that area is new to me, would a person be wise to wait? It didnt really bother me , but I was aware of some high powered ammo buzzing around. Thanks Max

Re: North-south road, silver fork road, and deer season

It is illegal to shoot across a road, and that one appeared fairly well travelled. They'll know it's there, just depends on whether they respect it or not. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but would avoid the truly dirt paths.

Just be careful of pine needles on the back roads. Silver Fork had some gravel (causing a crash last week on a group ride) and North-South has LOTS of pine needles. Caution is the word of the day.

BTW-The Pashnit gathering will be in progress on the 29th/30th as well. There'll be LOTS of riders in the area. Might want to check that out...probably be some group rides thru those areas.

Thanks! I hope none of the riders were hurt bad. I wasn't familiar with any rules for deer hunting, and I dont mind a little loose gravel or ruts in the road, I am usually cruising slow enough to avoid it, I would stick to the paved roads as much possible, thanks for your time. Max

I'd be more worried about "road hunters" than bullets if I were you. Road hunting is a practice by where the so-called "hunter" creeps along in the middle of the road with his pickup truck at about walking speed staring off into the brush looking for deer instead of watching where they are going.
Kinda a wake-up call when you come spinning around a corner and there is a truck there sitting at a dead stop in the middle of the road!

There are a few serious potholes in Silverfork, lurking in shadows.

Ouch!!! Thank you very much!! I will be solo by myself so extra cautioun will be the order of the day! Eleven Pines between mosquito ridge and wentworth also had some major!! pot holes, not to mention 3 or 4 of the bigest cows I ever seen in my life, but that might have been because they were close enough to block the road. So an extra caution for anyone heading on eleven pines. Dont wear dark sunglasses like I did , the potholes dont show up very well.
