Titus Canyon - Death Valley
Was in DV last month and had a great time riding many of the dual sport routes.
Finally pulled together some of my video of Titus Canyon. It is a very easy ride, NPS keeps it graded and in great shape. Only 27 miles, it goes from just West of Rhyolite (3450 ft) over Red Pass (5287 ft), down into the old mining town of Leadfield (3840 ft) and then on through Titus Canyon where it connects with the road to Scotty’s Castle (186 ft). MAP HERE (If you go up to the Map pull-down menu and select the USGS map you'll get a feel for the elevation & topo) It is a one-way road and thus you can just cruise along without worrying about some chowderhead doing a four wheel drift coming at you on every corner. Anyway -- CLICK HERE for my four minute review. Sorry, I can’t figure out how to embed this, so off you go. Death Valley is such a great place to ride, even if you never get off the pavement. I always enjoy seeing everyones pictures, so I’ll just throw this on the pile. And yes, I am old and slow ... thanks for noticing. |

Re: Titus Canyon - Death Valley
Oh, about them chowderheads ... apparently we have met coming at each other on the road to the Racetrack back in my chowderhead days ... I apologize

Nice video, Bill! You really get the idea what the road is like. Looks like you all had perfect conditions. Thanks!

Hopefully it will tease some to try the ride as it could be done with many bikes. If there has been no rain I think almost any hybrid bike could do this ride. V-Strom, Versys … The wash area towards the end of Titus Canyon can be soft gravel, but the rest you could just take your time and meander along. I believe this is the easiest, most scenic and best introduction to Death Valley back roads in the Park. You all want the "dirty side" deep down ya know

Re: Titus Canyon - Death Valley
Added a couple of shots of Leadfield to the video …
Yes the colors are very vivid up on Red Pass, they really do look like what is shown in the video … next time in DV I think I'll try and ride there early in the morning or just before sunset for even better photo light. |
