Day Trippin' the Inland Empire
First the map...
![]() My plan was to ride the Palms to Pines Hwy. I went about it in a little bit of a different way. First, I went past the west end of the ride in Banning so I could get pics of the dinosaurs in Cabazon. Tyrannosaurus Rex ![]() I think this was Brontosaurus when it was first under construction but the proper name has been revised to Apatosaurus. ![]() ![]() From Cabazon I backtracked to the Hwy 243 exit from I-10 and started up the switchbacks toward Idyllwild. This shot is looking back down at part of the road up from Banning. ![]() A wider view... ![]() No pictures in Idyllwild but here are a few from the Garner Valley... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Passing through Garner Valley I went on down to the switchbacks that drop down into Palm Desert. This is the view from the top. ![]() I didn't take any pictures on the way down, and once I got to the bottom I turned around and rode back up. Too many tourists heading up the road in cages and too many other bikers to really get a good run going back up (I was there about noon--it was HOT in Palm Desert!). I rode back to the junction with Rte 371 and headed down through Anza Valley. ![]() By now I was running out of time. Had to be back to take my mom and wife out for Mother's Day. I zipped over to Temecula and up I-15 to Elsinore and rode Ortega Hwy to San Juan Capistrano and headed up PCH. I made a pit stop at Aliso Beach and took one last picture. ![]() All in all, it added up to an 8 hour, 300+ mile ride on a beautiful day for riding! Thanks for following along! |

Re: Day Trippin' the Inland Empire
I am planning on taking that ride nid-june. Family and I will be moving from San Diego to Menifee, CA. I will be lucky to have the inland empire at my back door. Great route, and great pictures.

Great route - love Palms to Pines, dropping into Palm Desert and especially the 243 between Idyllwild and Banning...
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Day Trippin' the Inland Empire
What a cool day ride, Dan! It looked like a nice trip! I love the shot looking down into the Cochella valley
and then in the end you are back at the beach from the hot desert!
