Engine upgrade and Calif. emissions Question
I dropped my wife's bike off at LA Harley of Anaheim on May 8th to get a remanufactured engine installed because her rods are screwed up. Called and left a message on the service managers phone on the 10th to make sure that they understood that I wanted to upgrade from a 88 cu to a 95 cu like I did on mine in November. Called them yesterday and the guy tells me the engine is on order but they can't get the 95 cu for some reason and he thinks it's because it's carburated and it has something to do with CA emissions or something. I think he's full of it and doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground. I am about to ride down there and find out what the heck is going on and why no one bothered to call me for almost a month. Any of you engine jockeys know why they might not be able to put a 95 cu in place of the 88?

Re: Engine upgrade and Calif. emissions Question
from what I understand you should be able to upgrade to the 95 -- I would call another dealer or even Harley Tech support

Re: Engine upgrade and Calif. emissions Question
This Harley Tech Support is that a national number and where would I find it? Yesterday when I went to the dealer the service guys told me that when they tried to order the engine rebuild from Milwaukee they were told that the engine could not be upgraded to a 95 because it is a carburated engine and CA emissions won't allow it.

Re: Engine upgrade and Calif. emissions Question
Try this number 414) 343-4056 8 to 6 central time. I was looking at upgrading my motor from a 88 to 95 and my dealer didn't say I couldn't with a factory rebuild of mine

Re: Engine upgrade and Calif. emissions Question
The 88 twin cam engine was designed for the 95" jugs originally.
If you ordered a 95" engine; make them put the 95 jugs on the 88" motor. I swear; some HD shops are should be closed. The lack of knowledge and quality service is shameful. Here in Eugene, OR. there is Doyle's HD. They give such crappy service that my brother's shop is always busy. An engine swap should only take less then a day, once all the parts are in. I have been see some 124" motors going in quite often. |
