Forest City is an especially fun destination for Dual Sporters of all skill levels.
Coming from the Downieville area you can take dirt forest roads to get there. You can also reach Forest City by pavement if you travel through the Allegheny area.
This link has a great description of the old town and its history.

As I was searching Google, I actually came across a Pashnit link that mentions Forest City. Actually it is from the proprietors of the Downieville Riverside Inn. I have stayed there a few times now and recommend it whole heartedly. Mike and his wife Nancy are super nice folks that ride and love their mountains. Free breakfast includes homemade jams with bagels and yummy coffee. Better yet, Mike is a member of the local chapter of E Clampus Vitus (Clampers) and has a really really cool map he may share with you that shows not only Forest City, but many other sites of historical significance that the adventerous rider can set out to discover! I took my Mom on this ride for Mothers day last year. The ride from Downieville through Goodyears Bar is GREAT for beginners. There is even a placque marking the location of a stage coach robbery along the way. If you like riding and are interested in California's rich gold mining history, don't miss this destination.
Happy Hunting
