Re: Fall in the Smokies
I will say the same great pictures. I hope to get down that way next July and ride the blue ridge parkway for about two weeks.

Re: Fall in the Smokies
Thanks for the kudos. For those that are interested that might be planning a trip here, I am located in the Tennessee River Valley just west of Knoxville, TN. I have a cottage in back of my place that is open to anyone that would like a free place to stay. I can be in the Smokey Mountains and Deal's Gap in about an hour, the Cumberland Mountains in a 1/2 hour, and the Cumberland Plateau in about 15 minutes. From my house the ride gets good as soon as you leave my driveway and I'm not kidding. I have had folks come in from Florida, Michigan, Arizona, and Oklahoma stay at my place and ride with me. All have, without exception, bragged on my tours on other boards on the internet. Even people from the area have been surprised at the roads I have taken them on. I would like to become a sort of "Pashnit East" so to speak. I have an excellent knowledge of roads in east and middle Tennessee, western North Carolina and north Georgia. I am working on learning the roads in southeastern KY.
One of the comments most riders from out west have is they are stunned at how green and lush the countryside is. Our mountains aren't as rugged or tall as those out west but the lushness lends itself to a different sort of beauty. Also, where your canyon roads tend to follow the river basins our best twisty roads follow the contour of the land across the gaps. The gaps are pretty much the same thing called passes out west. Many of the roads across the gaps are paved trails that date back to the native Americans and pioneers that settled the area. It really makes for a different type of road. As I said before, if you're headed this way, drop me a line and I will do my best to help you out and put you up. if I'm off work I'll take you on some unforgettable roads. If I'm not I can probably hook you up with someone else from http//:www.easttnriders.com .

Re: Fall in the Smokies
Here are a few shots from this past summer.
This is the valley I live in. This spot is about 20 minutes from my house. ![]() Some of the roads have some serious drop offs. Notice the blue in the center.

Re: Fall in the Smokies
Here are some of the folks I ride with.
This is a group shot from a ride I put together back in July. The next one is a line up of ZRX's at one of our north Georgia gatherings. That was only about 2/3 of the bikes that showed up. The third is another example of the roads around my house. The fourth shot is from the July group. The guy looking at the camera is another individual that really knows the local roads really well. The last shot was taken of me from the pillion of one of my vivtors from Phoenix. |
