Special Doc Wong / Keith Code Riding Clinic "Sunday December 11th
Hi, I'm super excited!
So, the December 11, 2005 "Doc Wong Riding Clinic" will be a very special one indeed!! It's a done deal...Keith Code is confirmed!!! E-mail me at Docwong@aol.com NOW! to get on the list. The number of riders IS limited. You may or may not know, but the Riding Clinic with Keith Code is the only one where reservations ARE REQUIRED. If you've volunteered and helped at any of my clinics or other activities, please let me know when you register. You'll get a higher priority for this reservation! I'll also need help big time, so let me know if you can help out that day. I need people to lead groups, direct parking traffic, and do registration. Doc Wong Riding Clinic - Featuring Keith Code! When: Sunday December 11, 2005 8:30am (not 8am as in the regular clinics) to 3pm Where: We start at my clinic as usual Ride routes, lunch and drilling location: (undisclosed for now) Cost: $20 to cover expenses. Keith Code will be the guest instructor of my next "Dr. Wong's Riding Clinic" This will be a very special event. Keith will first give a very special 1 hour lecture! He has isolated individual control actions to riding and will share his new insights with you! As the premiere motorcycle skills instructor with more champions trained than anyone else, he'll share unique insights with you on how to improve your riding...continuously. He's worked with riders from all walks of life, from newer riders to world champions. Then we will all ride (ride route confidential for now). Drilling location with Keith is also confidential where he and some of his staff will be there to work with you one on one. Code will talk about his other innovations to rider improvement such as the no "Body Steering" bike, the Lean/Slide Machine, the Throttle-Shift Machine, the Brake Rig, and of course the Wheelie Machine. Then....get this, there's more, Keith will talk about the new project he's working on, having isolated 72 riding strengths or weaknesses one can improve on and how you can put these concepts into use! Then.....we'll be drilled on the steering drill by Code and some of his instructors!!!!! The drill he will be doing is a "key" drill! From what I understand, there are only a hand full of riders that have passed this drill to perfection! A lot of you will then have the opportunity to practice this technique and getting coached by Keith himself! In 1997 when Keith did this it was great! My riding improved markedly from the Keith's personal coaching. Then we will continue our ride (route will not be the same route as before) and have lunch (destination not disclosed at this time). It's hard to believe but true, let me reiterate: Keith Code lectures on individual control actions in riding, key concepts on how to continually improve your riding, advanced innovations, then... He rides with us..... We go to an undisclosed destination to get one on one coaching on a key skill and drill! How cool is that? Doc Wong www.docwong.com Active Life Medical and Chiropractic Center -------------------------------------- About Keith Code: He began coaching road racing in 1976. Since that time he has isolated and perfected techniques that are in common use today in motorcycling. He has instructed more riders at more tracks in more countries than anyone else in the world. Keith has been the coach for every American Superbike Champion from 1983 through 1992. He is the author of several well regarded books and tapes on motorcycle riding techniques. Legendary riders such as Wayne Rainey, Doug Chandler, Eddie Lawson and others have considered Code's instruction instrumental in the success of their careers! There's no doubt in my mind and many others that Code is THE man when it comes to the techniques and art of motorcycling! I recommend you buy--right now--at least his two books: Twist of the Wrist and Twist of the Wrist II and read them. I found them invaluable for my street riding. All for free???!!! Well....almost. A voluntary donation is requested for his plane fare. Suffice to say Keith belives in what we are doing and the purposes of the riding clinics. Read on below on what I need from you: 1. Learn a lot, increase your skills, ride better and safer. 2. Encourage your friends on the ideas I present in the Riding Clinics about: a. The symptoms of riding over your skill level. b. Public relations c. How to ride in groups. 3. During the ride clinics, if you see anyone riding over their heads or any other riding behavior that would endanger them or others that you notify your ride leader and to preferably notify me also. LOGISTICS, DETAILS: As a reminder: This clinic will start 8:30am sharp (one hour later than usual), so plan to arrive early at 8:15am, it will make it easier for me to get everything organized. Be sure to have a full tank of gas and be well fed and rested. SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Since these are not fast sport rides, any reasonably competent rider should be able to participate. We recommend that you be comfortable with your bike and knowledgeable about your (and your bike's) limitations and capabilities. If you have been riding for at least six months OR you have and can safely negotiate the mountainous roads off of Skyline, then you've probably got the minimum level required. The key issue here is that your skill level must be at the level where you can safely negotiate the twisty roads off Skyline. Of course you are expected to ride at your own pace. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: A motorcycle in good mechanical condition, helmet, gloves, heavy jacket (leather or heavy material), heavy pants, boots... in other words, sensible riding attire. If you show up in shorts, tank top, Oakley blades and flipflops on your feet, you _may_ be invited to go home. You must also have a valid motorcycle license and insurance. We split the riders into smaller groups (depending on how many riders there are), according to what YOU think your riding skill level is. The first group will generally ride at a faster pace and the last group riding at the slowest pace. You can ride at a slower pace, you don't need to feel like you have to keep up with the riders in front of you. We'll have experienced riders in the lead and at the rear. Those riders will be designated to you prior to beginning the ride, and if they see you doing something unsafe (hard braking late into corners, running wide, etc.) or if they have a technique tip for you, they'll talk to you about it at the next rest stop. If it looks serious enough, they might even motion for you to pull over. It's important to approach this whole thing with the right attitude. If one of the designated rider/instructors talks to you, it's meant to be constructive criticism and should be taken that way. After all, the purpose of the Clinics is to improve your skills. Also, if you see anyone riding over their heads, or endangering themselves or others, that you immediately notify your ride leader and also preferably Dr. Wong. It will be stressed that doing so is more important than "social graces". We try to ride at a moderate pace, and we hold the speed down on the straightaways to allow slower riders to catch up. We stop at any intersection where we're turning off to another road and we don't continue until everyone has arrived. We'll try to make rest stops long enough so that the slower riders will get a rest, too. Directions to Active Life Medical Center http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...it=Get+Map**** Dr. Wong's office is directly above Kelly Moore Paints. There will also be lots of bikes parked on the street. Doc Wong and Keith Code teaching the same class?
Sounds like an awesome combination! This is an event that people should be stumbling over their keyboard to book. For those that don't know anything about doc wong, he's somewhat of a local legend in the bay area. He has offered free riding clinics for years on BARF covering everything possible under the sun, from dealing with cramped fingers, to setting up your suspension properly, to track days, and basic riding techniques. Seriously, if there was ever a chance to further your moto education, this would be it.

Sure wish I could be there. I'd like to see Keith again, well say hello for me. I knew him along time ago. I used to sell him Amsoil and attended his classes at the old Riverside Raceway. I just know you're going to learn a thing or two and have a whole lot of fun doing it.
Keep the shiny side up! |

Re: Special Doc Wong / Keith Code Riding Clinic "Sunday December 11th
John and I were both there, along with nearly 70(!) riders. John's got photos, but it's likely that he's not home yet. John got his instruction before my group arrived at the range, so he'll have to tell you about it. I received my instruction from
Mr. Code hisownself, and he was clear in explaining the problem and clear in describing the corrective action. I was done in three passes of the range. I don't know whether to be pleased or disappointed. Good stuff, and a nice way to pass a pleasant December Sunday. Lots of cool bikes; a new Tuono, a Paul Smart Special (I didn't even know they were in the US yet!) , KTM SM, and loads of other cool stuff. Lots of nice folks too.cheers, Kurt |
