Introduction

A Note from the Editor:

For the writers of the Pashnit Motorcycle Forum, the Lost Coast was quite a popular destination in 2005. For Jim Fischer, the Lost Coast was an unplanned mid-point of a bigger adventure. In this follow-up to his last article on riding in Lake County, our resident Lost Tour Guide again dishes out a complete meal of road reporting, sights to see, history of the areas covered, all served up with the unique flair and élan of a seasoned Moto Roads enthusiast.

Jim takes us along on a 4-day adventure with John Elton, aka Fast_Far, as they set out with nothing more than a desire to head into the cooler summer climes found in the hills and valleys and forests in the middle of northern California. Jim’s wry observations knit together a compelling tale that’s sure to entice many of us along and inspire us to follow these travelers’ route into the back country.

Graced with excellent photo contributions from John, I’m excited to offer up this entertaining journal from our own Klutschengrabber. Thanks to both members for this remarkable contribution.

Jim,

Excellent account of what looks like an excellent ride. Thanks for the report.
I, too, got lost in Monte Rio trying to follow "Old Cazadero Road", last September, before finding Cazadero Hwy. And by the way, these guys (he had a partner on the other side of the road) were still panhandling on the road out to the lighthouse:

Jim, I loved this narrative. I have been to some of these areas but in a cage. I loved being able to follow along 'on the bike' this time. Plus some new places to explore as well. What a wonderful trip.

Jim and John,

Thank you for the article and the photos. Quite a lot of us seem to have met on the same fateful day in July ... Your ride took you through my favorite parts of Northern California and documents nicely why my better half and I chose to settle down here. See y'all this weekend!

Jim...what a great travelogue! I feel like I was there riding with you guys.

You make the journey interesting and informative, the route inviting and the scenery nearly visible im my minds eye while supporting it all with great pics.

I wish that you would seriously consider a change of profession to professional touring guide writer!

Thanks for sharing your great adventure.

Steve

"Near the junction of Hwy 299 and Hwy 44, John noticed that I had finally shaken my taillight loose. We stopped there to perform repairs".

"A little wrenching time"
Ah yes, shades of a previous ride. Ya know Jim, even duct tape needs to be renewed now and then.
Looks like you and John had a great ride. Nice write up and good pics.
Would like to have been along on that one!

Re: Fast-Far and Kluts’ Excellent Summer Vacation Ride

Jim you did a fantastic job re-creating the spirit of this trip for me ...with your witty commentary perfectly complimenting the use of photos so everybody that reads it can experience some of our fun...I was looking at that swimming hole and remembering how 'warm' it was until we dunked into that sweet, shady coolness...ahhh!

Thanks for putting the article together and for being a great riding partner, I'll be your wingman anytime
