Neat looking, but don't see how we could see the turns, names of roads, etc. that make it a route we could recreate easily. Might just be missing it on the page somewhere.

See the line on the left with "-" at the bottom and "+" at the top. Those control the zoom. To move the map, just click and drag. Double-Click to recenter.

It works exactly the same as Google Maps.

Zooming in and recentering, for example, I can see the starting and ending point...

Or, I can change the view and overlay the route on the satellite photo...

Oh, boy! More software to learn, I haven't tried google maps either...

I seems to be free...do you have to accept loads of junk email?

And can you print the maps or just screenshots?

I just found it yesterday, so I don't know for sure but I've not received any junk mail yet. I haven't looked for a way to print yet... the screen snapshots, even lacking anything else, work for me.

Google Maps, BTW, =

Re: A New Tool - Wayfaring.Com

Very cool program Sean - come in handy to add another dimension to those that like maps. Like John mentioned, how do you save a copy. I was thinking screenshot too would have to do for say adding one of those to a pashnit road page. Everytime I use on of these new programs, the downsides are instantly noticable, like the labeling of the roads only happens at a lower level. Maybe a control to turn on road labeling at different levels would help. Satellite maps are neat but difficult to get a sense of depth- which is where Google Earth (Keyhole) program comes in which I have that one too.

The Keyhole program really needs like a joystick since it allows you to 'fly' over the land with x-y-z controls plus you can make movies of the 'flying'. Couldn't get it to work very well though. Pretty time consuming. Nice thing about these programs is wait six months and you have a whole new upgraded version typically.

Right. What I was hoping for, though, was a "Turn right on XYZ street. Go 1.2 miles, turn right on ABC street"...etc., like my MapSource and Streets&Trips does. Something that walks you thru the route without having to zoom and pan and figure out what each road is. That's all.

Ah. No, I don't think it's intended to be that fancy.
