I posted a thread back in October asking for help with a new helmet...I finally got my new helmet. After much research and reading alot of advice on this forum, I headed to the Motorcycle Show in Seattle determined that I would return home with a new helmet. I had pretty much decided on a Scorpion because of the anti-fogging face shield. I tried one on at the local Honda shop and it felt great, I could not fog the shield no matter how much I huffed and puffed. I tried the same helmet on at the show and it just didn't feel right.
I tried on a Nolan I tried a Shoei . Finally I found the ARAI's and tried the Astral X and realized that it was the helmet for me. Nice and lite weight and felt perfect on my round head. I also purchased some ZOOKE anti-fog lense cleaner and have used it on my glasses. My next queary. Does ZOOKE also work as a good anti-fog product on face shields?Oh yea, I sweated bullets changing the face shield on my ARAI. Are they usually difficult to remove? What a awful scrapping, breaking noise getting that thing off. Cheers, Nancy |

Re: My new helmet...
Glad you tried them on first.
That''s where the shows really come in. Get to see adn touch a nice variety that isn't usually possible at any one dealers shop. The Aria's do make a worrisome sound when removing the shields. You will learn to do it a little quicker (with practice) and it won't seem as bad. As for Zookies...I haven't tried it (or heard of anyone else trying it) on their face shield. I do use it on my eye glasses. Not sure I would want to use it on the shield since it does leave a thin film of wax/paste type coating. Guess it couldn't hurt, since if it doesn't work you could clean it off with teh glass/plastic cleaner of your choice. (I use Plexus) I have tried Rain-X anti fog with a "little" success. I also have used the Fogcity shield liners. They do a nice job keeping the fog at bay... but you lose a little visual acuity. They also have a tendancy to "Halo" in headlights at night. When traveling I will carry one clear shield with the FogCity in it. (as well as my uisual tinted shield w/o FogCity) I have also tried the helmet inserts that attempt to block off your breath from getting to the shield and have found that they keep the shield clear... but tend to fog up my glasses. I do use Rain-X on the outsides of my shields. Seems to make the water bead up and flow off better. Just a turn of the head (at speed) and the water droplets get blown right off the shield.

Re: My new helmet...
FOG ZERO ANTIFOG PASTE FOR VISORS works well for an hour or two in a heavy rain. I hope it's ok for my shield. I bought in Burns Lake, B.C. I was hoping if it worked for snowmobiles it would work for my bike. Seems to polish ok. Pretty pricey so it must be good, right?
http://www.gmas.ca/specials/index.php Fogzero Xtreme Antifog reduces surface tension, filling in minor scratches and making the surface antistatic which eliminates dust particles so water droplets have no where to form. Fogzero Xtreme Antifog will clean, repel dust, reduce glare and fill in minor scratches on all glass, plastics and polycarbonate surfaces. In most cases scratches will be much less apparent after the initial application. Retail Price: $19.99 George's Price: $16.99 |

Re: My new helmet...
It's been raining here for it seems like 40 days and 40 nights. Actually, we've have had a combination of freezing weather, then rain, some pretty fair winds and today it's back to cold...34 degrees at my place this am 0430 dark hundred. I've been watching the weather down your way. I think yours is more extreme than ours. My Aunt lives in Santa Rosa with an overflowing creek in her back yard. Boy am I anxious for summer.
I'm gonna try the Zook on my face shield after I go buy one of those micro fiber clothes. They are suppose to do a better polishing job without any concern for scratching. Cheers! Nancy |

Allways use Micro cloth on sheild so as not to scratch it thats all I use even waxing bike or cleaning. Actually from the two storms we only got here in Corona 1 1/4" OF RAIN BUT THE MOUNTAINS SURE ARE PRETTY WITH THE SNOW ON THEM my caps locked but who care more dramatic. Take care Nancy I still miss the NW even with the weather but it never really bothered me that much next time I'm up that way will try and get together. End of May is the next ride up the in Wa area. rogerfjrfaster

Re: My new helmet...
48...glad to hear that you got a helmet that works for you...the fit is everything! Think about how many hours you head will be inside that thing and fit becomes very important.
As far as Zooke anti-fog...I got talked into buying it at the shoe (very impressive demonstration of the wax!) but am ready to e-mail tham and tell them they can take it back...the spray doesn't work for me on the face shield (funny, they did not demo the spray on a face shield!) and the wax only gets an 'ok' for me in the real life test. Hope this helps...Steve |

There is a poker run of sorts in Silverdale in May. I think it's in memory of Bob Merriman. It benefits a school for handicapped children. It will be on my list of rides. I ride up with a couple of my neighbors. If you interested PM me. Nancy
