Tim,
I got a handle on loading pics. I have Streets and Trips from a couple of years ago. (thanks for the recmendation) I tried to load a map from that but it would not recognize the format. How do you convert the map to load?

Re: Map loading
When I load a map, what I do is a print screen of the map I want and then go and paste in my editior (I use Microsoft Photodraw) crop it for the exact portions I want and save the map file as a .jpg file. At that point all I have to do is upload the file to my domain and establish a URL for it and it can be an image file on posts.

MS&T I always use the 'save as webpage' feature to get to the gif file. Most of these programs have their own file formats that other programs may not recognize. (Don't use the 'Save' or 'Save as' since creates a file format you don't want. Save as webpage to a dummy folder, then go into the folder and you'll see an '.html' file (that's the webpage it created) and also the .gif file of the map. You want that .gif file which is how I do it. I then delete the rest of the gunk the program creates, pull the .gif file of the map into a Photo Editing program and hand edit out the annoying square numbers the program puts for you start, stopping, and end points. Which in turn is why you don't see any numbers on the MS&T maps. (Yes, very time consuming )On Delorme 3-D Mapping, the trick was to use the Print command, and the program will create a usable pic of the map. Took awhile to figure that one out. |

Re: Map loading - How to get MS&T to create .gif map file?
John - another suggestion is keep the map itself 800 pixels wide or less in the MS&T program itself. In other works, what you see is what you get, that's what you want. Create the map in a moderate size that is 600x800 or less in MS&T.
If you create a really large map, say you have a 21 inch monitor for example, but shrink it down to the 600x800 standard forum size, it won't re-size very well. The one below I've no idea where this is b/c you can't read any of the landmarks, ie roads, towns. (Btw, if you want to repost an attachment within the forum, right click the pic, and cut and paste the address line between the [img] tags.) |
