Curvy Road 2 abnormally warm January days in New York

So I've been trapped inside my computer day dreaming about riding...When all the sudden my daily weather e-mail came into my inbox. Here I am praying that the forecast will stay the same until that nice warm 50 degree two day spree.

Amazed to see the forecast for the second week of Janurary got better and better...I go out and start up the bike...bundle up with a few layers to keep me warm for a few hours at 65-70 mph.

Like I've discussed in other forums, I'm a newbie on the street and I was siked to go out for a nice long ride...My first ride took me down past Newburgh, NY and back up the interstate (boy it was getting cold...I just wanted to go home).

My second ride was the shorter, but nicer one. Taking me south a bit into the beginnings of the Catskill mountains, I rode toward Voorheesville, then west on SR-443 toward Berne, NY...Gasping at the views.

Always riding in the car, I never had the urge to drive 100 miles for no reason, down the twistiest road on the map. 443 was a nice ride, but I'm still trying to find the "sick" roads in New York.

After I got through the tiny villages of East Berne, Berne, and finally West Berne, the road came into an open area...WOW! I thought I was back at my uncles house in Arizona, I could see so far...and being a very nice "winter" day, the sky was a brilliant blue and very clear. I couldn't help myself to do anything but slow way down (being that there were no cars in sight either way) and take in the view around me. And yes, I'm way to siked to actually pull off for 5 minutes, thats what the gas light is for! LoL.

Once I managed to pull my jaw up, I rolled the throttle back on and kicked it up a few gears, grinning as I looked into the next corner. Still learning different cornering techniques...I found hanging my rear end off of the seat makes me feel the most comfortable when going into and coming out of an extreme lean.

Anyways, my excitement came to an end as I watched the weather the night of Friday, Jan. 13th. Then on the 14th, we get 4-5 inches of snow with a nice layer of ice underneath. Back to the garage she goes.

Re: 2 abnormally warm January days in New York

Its a rare day when you get to ride in January in Upstate NY. I lived in Burnt Hills for 2-1/2 years when I worked at the GE Silicones plant in Waterford. Did a lot of sightseeing while I was there. I didn't have a bike back then but did return once on a V65 Sabre. I'll be heading that way in June this year to visit my sister in NH.

Hey, in June if your coming through the upstate area shoot me an e-mail ThorneM1@GMail.com. Not sure if you know the best places to eat/sleep, but I'm around for a ride or questions/advice.
