I just thought I would post this to see if there is any interest. Gary and I ended up riding there last year without knowledge of the event and it was really a riot!! I was wishing we had stayed as we really could have partaken in more gaiety if we had a room!!

The parade was awesome, and a lot of laughs! I imagine the ball on Sat. evening is also a festive event.

Mardi Gras Event Details
The dinner is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and is followed by the masquerade ball from 8 p.m. to midnight. Prices will be announced. Advance tickets are recommended and may be obtained through the Chamber of Commerce office at 132 Main Street in Nevada City. Call (530) 265-2692 or (800) 655-NJOY.

The Mardi Gras Parade, with up to 49 entries, begins at 2 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 26, 2006) and moves down Broad Street through the center of town. It is a rain or shine event. Merry spectators of all ages line the parade route while gaily masked societies parade through the historic district handing out beads, toys, trinkets, bangles and more. Everyone is encouraged to attend in festive Mardi Gras attire.

To reduce downtown traffic, a free shuttle service carries visitors to the Sunday parade from parking lots at the Nevada County Government Center on Highway 49.
