The Birth Of A Racetrack "Three Star Raceway"
Recently I wrote a story about vintage motorcyles and highlighted Ritchie
Hardmeyer the person that restored these bikes. The story was well received by many of you and as a result of this story, I was invited to a breakfast with a group of "Polka Dots". They are members of a local racing club formed back in the 50ts and still are going strong. They too enjoyed the story I wrote and wanted to introduce me to more of their membership, along with other old bikers that just enjoyed the sport of racing. I was thrilled to visit and listen to some of their tales of remember when. One of the fellows that I met was Jim Jones who was a member of Fort Sutter Motorcycle Club and Jim has been building a large photo album over the years of many of the guys with whom he rode and raced against. Like any town USA, Sacramento has gone through a period of growth in the racing industry. Not only horse, car, boat etc, but also motorcycle racing and, race tracks. Out of this transformation came a small race track in North Highlands called Three Star Raceway. Jim Jones had lots of information and some pictures gathered about the birth of this track. At this gathering I attended he brought this large album, a three ring binder full of photos, programs and newspaper articles along with his own recollections of racing at Three Star to share and after our visit, he was kind enough to let me borrow it in order to scan some pictures and glean some history along the way. So, that is what I am about to share with you the birth of Three Star Raceway. http://media.putfile.com/Three-Star-Raceway |

Thanks PK! I am so glad you accepted this invitation! I haven't seen that many pictures of strap on steel soles in a long time! Thanks for the time and effort you put in to meeting the Polka Dot's, picking their collective brains and scanning and posting some of their pictures! I love it! Regards... John

Ken,
Ah, the 50s and 60s, the golden years of flattrack. Thanks for your efforts in making this great video and sharing this "corner" of racing history. Tom |
