The one picture is from one of the banks here in town. It doesn't reflect the fact that 2/3 of the way to work, there is a valley that holds the REALLY cold air. That spot clocked in at -33F (yes, that's negative thirty-three degrees Farenheit). Needless to say, it's not exactly two-wheel weather...although I'm not sure how all the snowmobile folks handle it.
Still, you can't beat the scenery for a commute. Although it looks very snowy, it's really nothing like Sierra precipitation. It's very dry, and the snow doesn't stick to the roads. So as long as it's not falling, the plows and the traffic keep it pretty clear. Can't wait for my fifteen minutes of summer.... |

Re: Wintry Commute
Holy Crap, Batman! -33.
I second guess going out if it gets below 60. But I am born and raised in SoCal and think that is cold. I go to Utah for Christmas almost every year, in-laws, and thought the time I was out in 7 degree weather was way to cold for anyone or anything. I couldn't imagine -33. But, you can't deny the beautiful scenery you have. |

Re: Wintry Commute
I was looking at the weather for West Yellowstone Montana the other day and saw 44 below. I love Montana very much. One of my favorite places to visit summer and winter, but I don't think I could take those kind of temps long term year after year. Yep... a great place to visit. I'll probably make another trip into the area again this year towards the end of July.

Re: Wintry Commute
Much to my chagrin, and my wife's amusement, I must be getting used to the weather here....it got UP to about 25 (above zero) today, and I went out in my PJ's to run the garbage out....and it didn't feel that cold....arghhh!
I'm with you all who say "65 and breezy starts getting a bit nippy". If I ever move back to sunny California, I'll be able to handle anything....give me a good Death Valley 120 any day over this stuff. I'll just have to ride vicariously through you guys....keep the pix and the posts coming....I think of my commutes in California while NOT being stuck in traffic. |

Re: Wintry Commute
I just looked up where you're at on the map. On the other side of the mountains from Bozeman. I haven't made a trip into that area yet. Bozeman is as close as I've come to you. Burrrr!

Re: Wintry Commute
It's been a while since I've seen a " - " in a temperature sign. But, I have seen them before. Went snow skiing in northern Michigan once at 34 below. Went for a bike ride in northern Indiana once at 23 above. And, just for the heck of it, went water skiing in southern Indiana once at 45 above. But, these days my temp records tend to be at the other end of the scale. 122 degrees in Phoenix (but it was a dry heat).
Hang in there. It's only 4 more days 'til Spring!
