Spanken new Strom (DL1000)
Hey guys and gals, Just wanted to share some pix of my brand new 04 V-strom I picked up yesturday night. Today it was sunny and 50 so I decided to work on breaking in the engine. Only did 200 miles today, but all city (Seattle area) and country roads so not too bad. The bike is every thing I had hoped it would be. Perfect for the kinda ridding I wanna do!

Welcome!
Nice bike. Hopefully that sunshine will let you ride for a while. You sent your characteristic Pacific Northwest wet weather down here.

Sweet bike Robert - keep us posted on your mods and travels!
Speaking of mods, so what's the first thing you want to change or buy for the bike? |

Re: Spanken new Strom (DL1000)
Yah its pretty sweet as delivered. To awnser your question about mods. After my last post my wife came home and wanted to go for a ride. With clear skies and the sun gone down its now in the thirties. We did fifty miles and were mostly toasty, but I think the first mod will be heated grips. The hand gards and my nice gloves did pretty good, but I did buy this thing to ride and well...
I had read before I bought it that some didn't like the wind buffeting of the stock windscreen and after trying both positions, I have to agree that it needs to be lower or higher to either get your head out of the wind or into a clean slipstream. I am tall however (6'3"), and think the stock screen in the upper position would work for many. I will probably try a taller screen for winter and keep the stocker and use it in the lower postion in the summer. This thing sounds great and I believ it would sound increadible with some slip ons, but I am going to try and resist the temptation as it sounds great but not loud as is, and makes plenty of power so I don't really have an exuse to get some. Other than that, the tank bag and soft saddle bags are on order as is the center stand and I intend to ride the crap out of it. My dad ( garage monster to you guys) and I plan a father son ride this summer of epic proportions and I can't wait. |

Re: Spanken new Strom (DL1000)
I want a VStrom in the worst way... There are so many roads around the central coast area that would be great one. I'm keeping my eye out for a used one that's been well taken care of... Are you planning any adventure trips??? Alaska??? That's where I'd like to go when I get one... |

Re: Spanken new Strom (DL1000)
I heard a sound clip of the REMUS slip-ons and they sounded great... Not overly loud, just a nice rumble... They are already on my wish list for the Strom I hope to own someday... I'd probably add a PCIII as well...

Re: Spanken new Strom (DL1000)
Just got in from another ride...yah, I think some heated grips are in order if I am going to keep up this riding around in the 40's and 30's.
As far as the slip ons...I have heard the two brothers cans and gawd it sounded saaawwweeeeet. I have heard good things about the Remus and that pic you posted was awfully sweet. Hmmmm hard to justify though as the thing makes tons of torque and I don't really need them...Hmmmm Any ways, as far as rides my dad and I are planning a tour of the rockies including pikes peak and mount rushmore and some of the parks in Utah and what ever else floats our boats. Probably about ten days. Other than that, hear in the northwest alone are more day and over night trips than I can finish any time soon! I did grow up in Santa Cruz Ca and know what you mean abuot the central coast. The ride up and over My Hamilton to visit licks observatroy comes to mind as a road I would love to revisit with my Strom the last time was on my RF900 wich loved the smooth sections, but the strom would rock up there. |
