Saturday Ride around the Bay

Met up with Chris, Cliff, Andrew and Sherri this sunny morning in Alameda and embarked a great little trip around the south bay and peninsula. With me on the Strom, Chris on the R6, Cliff on the ZZR 600 and Andrew and Sherri on the FJR off we went. North on I-880 to I-80 W over the bay bridge. After the bridge we branched off on I-280 to meet up with US 1 at the Pacifica exit. Once we got nearer the coast, the low lying clouds were prevalent and the warm sun was no where to be found.

We traveled HWY 1 to Half Moon Bay and had breakfast at the Main Street Grill with the singing chef. It's a small little diner/cafe and it was pretty busy so we ended up sitting and eating at the counter. The omelet was pretty good though and I needed the 3 cups of coffee after following a sightseeing bus down 1 most of the way at 25 mph!! After breakfast we went back up to rt 92 and headed east for 5 miles and got on rt 35 (Skyline blvd) heading south. Traffic was moderate (moderately slow) but that sure is a cool road! We stopped in the trading post parking lot across from Alice's Restaurant for a quick rest and to take some pictures.

There were lots of different bikes out today and we took some time to admire and comment on the different bikes in the parking lot with us. Leaving there, we continued on 35 until we met up with rt 9 heading south towards Boulder Creek. This road is in pretty good shape with lots of twisties there is however some sand and gravel on parts of the road so be careful. We stopped in Boulder Creek for some coffee and a bathroom break By now, we were away from the coast and the sun was back out and warming things up. It felt nice. Andrew and Sherri left us there to get back to route 1 and tool around the coast efore heading back to Orangevale.

It was great meeting them and hope to ride with them again soon. Chris, Cliff and myself headed east out of Boulder Creek on Bear Creek rd toward rt 17/I-880. Bear Creek rd is another gem filled with twisties and hairpins, but lots of slow moving cagers. Most drivers were quick to wave us past however and the road was in pretty good shape. Once we met up with 17n the traffic was thick, especially after it turned into I-880.

My sportbiking friends got pretty far ahead of me and as they both live near Hayward anyway and would continue on 880 until home I took the opportunity to get off on Mission blvd to I-680 n and back to Concord. I had a great time today thanks for coming. My total trip odometer from Concord to Concord read 198 miles. Andrew and Sherri will be sharing their pictures when they get back home later on today.

Joel,

First of all, from Sherri and I, thank so much for a great ride with really good people. We both really enjoyed meeting Cliff, Chris and you and we really enjoyed the tour of an area of California that we were remiss in not seeing yet!

After we split up, we took 236 from Boulder Creek. It looped North to 9 and then we retraced our steps down 9 to Boulder Creek again and then on to Santa Cruz where we picked up 1 North.

From our ride, here is the starting point on Coast Guard Island near Alemeda:

What a great ride!! Great shots too!!

I don't think you could find a landscape that varies that much in such a compressed area in any other place but Cali. Gotta love it .

Thank You for sharing.

Beautiful pictures! With my slow internet connection it took them forever to load, but it was worth the wait!
