Right on the outskirts of Suisun near highway 12, there is a huge area of gravel roads called Grizly Bay Wildlife Reserve (or something very similar to that).

You can go for miles on the back roads. Also, the upper end of Lake Beriessa (sp?) there is a neat back road that will take you up to Clear Lake. From Clear Lake, you can take more dirt roads up to Lake Pillsbury. Take Green Valley road from Cordella Junction to Berryessa.

What bike are you riding? If you go the back way up Lake Berrryesa as GSDrifter suggested, there is also the Knoxville off-road area. It's not really maintained and out in the middle of nowhere, but fun for some fire road rides. Look at this thread. http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2466

Actually you (or any post originator) can change the title.

Just go to your initial post.
Click on the "Edit" seen in the initial post window (lower right side).
Click on the "Go Advanced"

The post title will be at the top.
Change it to whatever you want.

Hey John (JPM),

Your posts about the Knoxville area have piqued my curiosity, as its closer to the Bay Area than Mendo NF. Do you think Adventure bikes (BMS GSs, VStroms, etc) would be able to handle most of the roads up there, or at least enough to have an interesting day. Not looking for single-track, just fire roads in various states of repair/disrepair.

I looked at yahoo maps and it looks like there is a lot of little service roads that go all over back in there. I am sure an adventure bike will do fine back in there, besides you can always turn around and find another road if it gets too rough.
