wear bars on metzeler 880s?

Hello All

New to BMW motorcycles, previously a Honda rider....

Am trying to gauge tire wear on the 2004 R1150RT I just bought, it's got Metzeler 880 Marathons on it.

I visited the Metzeler site and it said to look for the TWI markings on the side of the tires, which I found, but after that I can't spot the wear bars to look for?

Are wear bars only visible once your tire thread depth has reach the level for which replacement is recommended?

thanks in advance

dom

The Metzeler 880 wear bars are hard to see till you are close to the wear limit. You can detect them with a tread depth guage by running it thorough the groove and watching for a spot just slightly shallower than the rest of the groove if you are really interested, but the bottom line is--if you can't see the wear bar, there is plenty of tread left.
