Do you have a California Street Legal Yamaha WR450F?

I'm investigating the options of getting a WR450F street legal in Caifornia. There is a round about way of doing it that seems to be working for people and it isn't all that hard.

That said, has anyone done it? If so, any gotchas I should be aware of?

I'm thinking:

Baja harness, lights, switches
Power Commander
Larger tank
Smaller sprockets (make it a little more bearable on longer road trips while not giving up too much as it's first gear is ultra granny as is)
Aftermarket seat

Anyone with input on this stuff, if you input I'll appreciate it!

Does the new WR450F have a CARB sticker on it? I haven't done the dirt to dual-sport conversion in a few years.

Buy 1 in Colorado already setup for enduros,register it there, ride off 7500 miles, bring it to CA, of course there isnt an odometer...................

I have one! Bought in NV, had dealer install the equivelant of a Baja Designs kit and programmable speedo/computer and licensed it there in NV. When the registration expired in a year licensed it here in CA. Had to have the VIN verified, and also the programmable odometer indicated 7,761 some odd miles. That was it.

The round-about way I know is to go to DMV for the forms. Then go to CHP for a VIN# verification. Then fill out the form from DMV that says all the lights and stuff work. Then DMV shreds your current registration and Pink Slip. They then issue a "spcns" (special construction) Pink which will say nothing about Yamaha on it. (I have the same thing on my bike trailer registration since I built it in my garage on evening.) They hand you a plate and off you go. The only drawback may be at resale time, with the special construction pink slip.

A good friend of mine put a plate on a YZF 450 this way after installing a lighting coil, etc. Hope this helps............RON

Definetly don't take to DMV for VIN verification. I had one hell of a time getting my KTM done.

You will need luck.

Does it have a green sticker? 3 or C 8 dig. of the VIN?

The license and registration is the hard part. The rest is easy. The easiest way to get one is to buy one used that already has a license and registration. I could help you find one if you are interested. "Trick Dual Sport" has the most reliable dual sport kit. Everything works even after you have dropped the bike a few times.
