More Kentucky Bike Pics...

Hey guys...it's me again, Nathan from Kentucky. I just wanted to share some more pictures I took during a ride today. Total mileage was 95, with about 75 of those being on some pretty good twisties. One thing I've realized is that I need to start taking some pictures of the actual roads instead of just my bike, so that you all can get an idea of what they are like out this way.

I hope you all enjoy. Thanks for looking.
Nate

Picture 2 is my friend Alex's bike looking down the road the other way. His bike is a '91 CBR 600 F2...very sharp and clean.

Picture 3 is my bike on the top of a hill looking over a valley. You can kind of see the Kentucky River way down in the bottom of the valley.

Picture 4 is a variation of that shot with my bike in the forefront of the shot.

And Picture 5 is myself on my bike in front of a "twisty" road sign.

Re: More KY Pics..

Very nice pics Nate. Good to see you trying to shoot various angles of a single scene. I often will shoot 3 angles of a bike scene, and one by far will stand out. This also teaches you what works and doesn't as you start racking up more and more shots, you can build off what style of pic you like the more you go out with the camera.

Great shot of the CBR, the pic has good balacnce, and love the road curving off behind the bike. Plus the camera is level with the headlight so great height to work with in shooting bike pics.

Thanks for the comments Tim. I like the shot of the CBR as well, especially because the sky is actually blue because the shot is away from the sun, whereas the others were all taken looking into the sun. The camera has a hard time adjusting the colors in that situation. And I have to credit Alex with taking that shot. Darn
Thanks again...

Re: More Kentucky Bike Pics...

Nate, the next time you shoot some pics, in particular when you are facing into the sun, you might just take a moment to utilize the camera's light meter. In the first shot, assuming you just pointed the camera and took the pic, the camera automatically metered off the sun and used the fastest shutter speed likely. Try pointing the camera at the bike itself, or halfway between the bike and ground, and allow the camera to meter off that light.

The sky will be sort of washed out, but you'll get your shot and it won't be as dark.

Re: More Kentucky Bike Pics...

Thanks Tim...I'll be sure to try that next time I'm out and see how my pics come out. That obviously makes sense, so I'll see what I can work on.

Breck...temps were in the upper 70's, probably into the low 80's. It was late afternoon too, so just after the peak of daytime temp. It's been about 10 degrees warmer than usual this week, so Alex and I have been taking advantage of it. I just got back from a ride and it's been about 75 all afternoon. They have been calling for scattered thunderstorms all week, but they keep happening in the middle of the night. Works out well for us.

Speaking of our ride this afternoon, we took some more pictures along the way. There are just a few, as most of them are not worthy of being on this site. Hopefully these aren't too bad though.

Re: More Kentucky Bike Pics...

Looks like you guys have some great roads to ride on. Nice photos.

Comments about exposure. Unfortunately, digital cameras don't have the exposure latitude of film. In your first photo, you did maintain details in the highlights (zone7). Sky was still blue. You still had detail in the shadow area (zone3). If you had metered off the bike as Tim suggested, you would have had max saturation on the bike (zone5), but, the sky would probably be washed out like in photo 3. If your goal was to maintain details in both areas, you accomplished it.

Edit: just my
