Nor-Cal Dual-Sport Ride: Discussion Thread
There seems to be some interest in putting together an informal Nor-Cal Dual-Sport ride up here in my area, so I thought I'd put it out there for discussion.
So far, the options are pretty much up in the air, but the ride would be based out of the Chico area and would be for the area East of the valley. The ride would be on the wknd and would likely include at least one night of primitive camping. Ideas as to the route and date are totally open, but the idea will be to hopefully do this as soon as weather permits. Interest?? ![]() Ideas?? ![]() Discuss... |

If it's of a less technical nature I would ride to get there, ride it, then ride home... so that would be the Vstrom. If it is of a more technical terrain then I wold most likely haul the KTM there and ride from wherever we start. An overnighter is OK w/me. Since it will (or may) be cold we may need a good sized fire though. Thinking back... Come up with a couple route/area ideas Ray and post em up. Then we can choose and vote. Thanks for starting this up!

Re: Nor-Cal Dual-Sport Ride: Discussion Thread
Ray,
Interest?? :Absolutely Keep me posted on ride plans and dates. My only conflicts on upcoming weekends are May 5-7 for the U.S. Sports Car Invitational (GrandAm) since I'll be wokring at Laguna Seca track and of course the May 19-21 Spring Gathering at Sopiago.Ideas?? irt fire roads please, similar to last years route. One night of primitive camping with fire permit. Maybe one or two more challenging dirt trail sections to spice it up.Discuss... I don't know this area very well. Maybe provide two or three route options and let the voting begin. With scales of difficulty for the bigger dual sports. I'd be able to arrive in the Chico area late Friday afternoon, camp overnight, wake to start the ride Saturday, and ride back home Sunday afternoon or Monday morning.

Re: Nor-Cal Dual-Sport Ride: Discussion Thread
Oh Yeah! I heard a lot of good things about last years ride.
Hey Ray - High Lakes? On toward Almanor or Feather River Canyon? All of it can be so good. I have never been offroad near the Lassen area. Only the stuff between Paradise, Butte Meadows and Lake Almanor. Id love to see more new stuff as well as discover more routes in the areas I have explored. If you build it, we will come! (and I'll even help on scouting missions if needed) June 4th and 5th would be a little tough for me. (prior obligations) But I would imagine this ride will need to be later in the summer for enough to snow to have melted. Mmmmmmmmmmm..... the natives are getting restless

Re: Nor-Cal Dual-Sport Ride: Discussion Thread
One way to accomodate riders that desire different levels of road conditions would be to make the main travel route similar to last year's level, but find a camp spot earlier in the day (say around 2:00) in an area with lots of roads and trails to explore.
Then we could split up into a couple of subgroups looking for the appropriate challenges. It also allows us to play for a while with our bikes unencumbered with our luggage and camping gear. Photo from last year's ride. ![]() Just a thought. |
