Deal's Gap, eat your heart out! - Ashland, Oregon

While I have never ridden the famed Deal's Gap, I've seen a lot of pictures and read a lot of stories about it. There are several - perhaps even many - roads out here in the west that the thought "This has got to be as good as The Dragon!" goes through my head as I ride them.

One of them is the 20-odd miles of Hwy 66 east of Ashland, OR. Here are some pics that I took a couple of weeks ago:

Who says there aren't guard rails on western roads?

Around every curve is... the next curve...

Here's an over-view of the road. (Sorry, the colors are a little whacked, but I only get to fly when the weather's too bad to drive, so the lighting was wierd.)

I started out with HUGE pictures on Photbucket. I reduced them there, but a couple of them still seem to be big here; I suspect that my browser isn't refreshing completely. If anyone thinks they're still too big, I'll shrink 'em some more...

Looks as though they finally re-paved the road...the last time I wandered over 66 it was infested with tar snakes.

Nice pics!.

Nice pics!.
Last time I was over that road, it was infested with Kawasaki Concours's. The Concours Owners group had their National Rally in K-Falls so that road was used and enjoyed heavily! That Highway 66 between K-Falls and Ashland is a WAY cool ride! I don't know about now but in 2001, the pavement was much better than most of our roads in California...

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I ride this stretch of road often. We used to do a weekly dinner run to the Green Springs Inn up at the top of the hill. I've left lots of peg scrapings on those curves!

Yes, Roger, be sure to let me know when you're coming... and that goes for anybody else, too. It's more fun when you can share the experience!

May need to take you up on that offer. Looks like a great road to ride.
