Test Ride

After waiting a month, the Gixxer is back on the road. Took forever to get my new chain and sprockets, but they were worth the wait. I got them installed Thursday night but was to busy to go test ride it until Saturday morning.

So I get geared up Saturday and head off to test ride the bike. I don’t even get around the block when I discover the shifter was positioned wrong. Back to the garage for a fast fix then off to Santa Suzanna Pass. A few warm up test laps in the pass and I was feeling really good about my new gearing choice.

Wow! Silence! I didn’t realize how much noise the tired old chain and sprockets were making. The much talked about (amongst Gixxer 1k’s) 520 Race Conversion was to say the least, an awesome improvement over the stock gearing. Now she doesn’t lug in the real tight stuff. I just need to be a little more careful to keep the front rubber planted. She was fast before, but now she’s scary fast, 0 to Ticket in 2 seconds

Re: Test Ride

OK, so with that successful test, it was time for the true test, Highway 33 of course. So 40 miles of SoCals finest twisties would be a good test ride

On the way up I saw the remains of the rockslide that closed Hwy33 causing a rerouting of the SoCal Gathering and Tim’s Central Cal Tour. It’s a much larger area than the photos can show. It’s just north of the waterfall by about 50 yards, not far above the Wheeler Gorge Campground we stayed at for the SoCal Gathering

Re: Test Ride

On this outing rocks and water seemed to have attracted the camera lens for some reason. The one large slab that has yet to make it to the highway is as big as a house

Re: Test Ride

Along the way I spotted a few of the local cliff dwellers. Look close and you’ll see several.

Re: Test Ride

The roads were empty for a Saturday. Then it was time to get back to what I came here for, the road. Seems mostly cruisers were out in force. I don’t know where all the sport bikes were.

Re: Test Ride

Yes it’s the mandatory overlook photo on Hwy 33.

Re: Test Ride

Did I mention I went down Saturday? Well it is a dangerous sport I participate in. Came out of it OK with just two badly sprained fingers on my right hand. I was climbing a loose granite slope for a better photo angle and lost my footing. I should stick with motorcycling, it’s much safer!

With a successful test ride completed, it was time to head home. Although I think Sunday may be some additional testing required.

Sunday/Todays report to follow a little later.

It seems that you are at your safest when you are on the bike.
